It really depends on the dvb application you use. For instance using tsreader with vlc will not require any additional codecs as vlc has everything built in. I believe most of the other applications will require a codec such as the elecard which can decode 4:2:2 video (or you could record the program using the application of your choice and play the recording back in vlc since vlc has no problems playing back files accessed by another applications).
