Read last night that "The Waltons" will soon be airing on Hallmark and GMC (Gospel Music Channel) in addition to INSP.

Our family has been watching everyday since it came to INSP several months ago. Even our 15 year old daughter enjoys it.

A few days ago John got a job in the city at an office since no new orders were coming in at the saw mill. He said to the family I'll be making a little over $100 a month. The entire family was in awe and couldn't believe all the money they would be getting. Today a week's worth of groceries costs more than $100. John soon realized that his place was at home with his family and that was more important than a larger monthly income.

Lots of great lessons can be learned when watching that show. Today most people take things they have for granted. My dad grew up during the depression and its great hearing stories about how he earned 25 cents an hour on a farm working hard all day and how he enjoyed listening to the radio.

I always enjoyed the Walton's show, too. It wasn't my most favorite, but it was high ranking.

I looked around for the intro theme, but this was the best that I could find that was the actual filmage and music. It's not of great sound or video quality, but it is original.

This one has the good music quality, but it is a pieced together work of video snapshots:

They both bring back some fond memories. Things have changed a great deal since the era of the depression as well as from the times that this series aired. The best times were probably when the series aired, but I think people's minds and hearts were more true and simple during the times that the series depicted. Today, very bad things are happening. Or is it just that I have changed? Or is it the media coverage?

For me, personally, "The Little House on the Prairie" series beat out "The Waltons". At least with the earliest episodes. For me, I felt that I would rather have lived during the time that was depicted in that show. I was also a huge fan of Michael Landon from the Bonanza series at the time, so that was a large appeal for me.
