The Stick it to Dish anyway you can thread !

for 4

A lot of people are already looking for ways to cut their bills. I don't see why he would add the antenna to his system when he was already getting locals on his satellite system unless he was looking at saving $5 per month by dropping the locals from his package (in which next month they will force everybody to pay for locals whether you want them or not). We only get two or three stations in this area OTA which is what Dish Network offers. He was on OTA before he got Dish Network and they only reason they got it was due to their daughter getting the system for them.
So he can get 4 at one time. I have E* and w/OTA I can record 4 at once. 2 Ota & 2 sat. Try asking the neighbor.

Yeah I have a 722 that records 4 things at once:)

First time I saw it doing that I got VERY excited:)

Plus if Es backhaul goes out you still have locals, and the neighbor might be connecting a TV for just OTA

to save a extra receiver fee:)

Why does everyone hate on Bob?

All I read is he is looking out for the consumer. I think a lot of us accept the fact we get screwed over daily. But there is no reason to be rude or disrespectful here. :up

The problem I have is that it seems like he has pretty much highjacked just about every thread here and in the pub to do his ranting, even ones that don't have anything necessarily to do with the price increase. Being pissed about 3+ DVR households having a bill going up is fine, but at this point more people are getting pissed at bob for taking over the boards than they are at Dish.

Plus, his material is getting very thin.;)

My increase this year is $1.00. That is the lowest price hike I've had with DISH in 10 years. Last year the dvr advantage subs got an $8.00 increase. It was offset by a $3.00 dvr credit for most of the year , but it was still way too high of an increase. This is one price hike that subs can avoid if they do their homework and drop some receivers or trade them in for others.

I'm glad you are ok with your bill "only" going up $1.04 this year. How much did it go up last year? How about next year? I guess as long as Dish only sticks the tip in you are ok with that?

There are some who are going to see a 20-30% increase and I don't think we are ok with it.

Last year it was $3.00 if I remember correctly. About the same as the increase at Direct and at Comcast. The prices I pay for a lot of other things are more than they were last year as well...But then I understand that the cost of doing business goes up as well. New satellites, R&D, property taxes, employee salaries, health insurance, building maintenance, etc. So whether it's $3 or $1 I am still okay with it. If I can't afford it, then I either adjust my programming down to something I can afford or drop sat service all together. But up till now, I can still afford it within my budget.
Now if you would be content with no new satellites, no new receivers, no chance of new channels, no call centers to call in to, no service calls, no retailers...then I am sure that Dish could work that out and keep their prices at what they are or even drop them over the next couple years.

Next year? Really? you want me to complain about next years increase? I'm not even stupid enough to complain about a price increase that I have no idea about and that is a year away.

please explain how the FEES create shows.......

Package prices pay for shows

Fees pay E?
Fees go to E*. Package prices go to E*.
More $$ for E* = more $$ E* has to purchase shows.
More shows E* purchase = more shows get made.

Or are you saying you know (have seen) E*'s budget so you know where the money comes from and where it goes?

sorry Sam, but Dish does not purchase shows. They pay to carry channels. those channels purchase shows. The majority of the money you pay Dish to carry programming (AT100/200/250/etc) goes to those programmers for those channels, the rest goes to Dish along with the fees for things like new satellites, R&D, employees salaries, health insurance, property taxes, vehicle upkeep, etc.
But Dish doesn't purchase shows...

We all know that major brocasters don't get as much money because there is less coming in from ads same problem that newspapers have this is multiplied by large debit. The networks that have been on satelite tv /cable are duing much bettter dual streams of income so they are producing more shows that regular networks can't afford to make.
Well the reciver fees can help pay for new satelites that will add more HD programing to dish that means more people we watch them after all is eye candy. More stations will have to get more hd programing you can't show old shows with bars on side unless we talk about tvland. More HD channels means bigger competition so more HD shows. More household may get HD tv lower price for us and it may even put cable out of business. Comcast and other cable providers have hard time providing more HD channels I rember few years ago i tried HD from comcast and it was like five channels and dish had way more. Or we get cable upgrade and very fast internet. For example ESPN get 3.56 per customer.

Well I dont have a HD set can I opt out?:)

my increase loos to be about 23 to 25 bucks.

If anyone had such a increase during a deflationary period. how would you feel?

The CPI less energy is actually dropping. home prices DOWN dramatically.

look the economy sucks any company that sticks it to their customer at such a time is nuts.

and rumor has it package prices will be going up in 2nd quarter. so no one is immune

You know darn well most everything goes up, regardless of the economy. You just want to ignore it and keep throwing Dish tantrums.
