As far as los is concerned, there isn't enough can be said about the dish pointer app. It's just to easy for anyone to use.

One thing to keep in mind. In order to have international and hd you must have 2 dishes. Some apartments will only allow one dish. Next question is your balcony covered or enclosed? Can the dish be mounted to your railing and be on the outside of balcony? All of these are obstacles to installing at an apartment.
It can be mounted on the balcony railing its in the lease agreement.

Tech not coming out, Supervisor is coming tomorrow morning for the second opinion. FML.

Of course the Supervisor shows up today while I'm at work. Still he got in the apartment and talked to me on the phone but didn't do any measurements and just eye'd it. He said the south balcony wall which blocks no farther then 180° would be blocked. I'm looking at dishpointer.com and it says Azimuth (true): 189.9°. Isn't 9.9° worth a try?

Actually no. Directv requires a 10 degree window all around. Can you reach that birds? Yes. Will you be able to for 2 years? Yes. Problem is they're NOT required to install it without that window. You need to find a local retailer that doesn't work directly for Directv. They'll put it in, problem is you don't know how good/bad the install will be

Don't take this the wrong way, but, generally speaking the Local Installer is VERY good, seeing he's paid by the hour and KNOWS that he can be contacted for any work at a later date, unlike most D* installers.

Many times the D* Installer gets in and out, often just enough to pass and move on, seeing he's being paid by the job, not the hour.

Oh, no, I was referring to the companies that actualy DO D* work as part of thier job.
We have a very good company in town that also deals with OTA antennas and some others as well.

There use to be one that dealt with c-band and small dishas well, dont know if they are still around though.

Thanks everyone, I found a helpful local installer that is willing to give it a try tonight. We'll see how it goes.

So you're up & running on dish?
Yes sir! They gave me a 1000.2 dish but didn't know that to get KBS World, I need a 1000+ with the 4 LNBs. So I'm getting that switched out Monday.

I'm glad you got setup regardless of which company.

Welcome to the world of satellite! It's a shame you wasn't able to get Directv but none the less you got something ;)
