The PlayStation Vue Thread

Cox Oklahoma picture quality is very good, IMO better than Dish or Directv. Las Vegas Cox is on par with satellite. I run around 700-750G a month streaming several hours a day. More on some days depending if I use espn3. I would probably top the new caps if I was strictly streaming. I would definitely not have a video stream going as background noise like I do with at times now.

It's garbage here in Omaha. Think I'm running around 300GB per month just streaming some baseball and Netflix with the occasional movie.

I'm positive is he going over the cap if I went strictly streaming. I do miss my no caps in Georgia.

My cap is 1.04TB. I use ~100GB now with streaming Netflix, YouTube, NHK news, ABC & CW apps, etc. I also work from home a lot with 8+ hours of VPN and VOIP phone usage daily. I've done the math & 1TB will be almost impossible for us to hit still. As you said, if I have a TV on the background for "noise" it will be OTA or a movie vs streaming when I make the jump.

So I'm thinking about buying a MiBox Android TV for $70. While I'm ok using my phone & Chromecast for most apps, think I want a remote (even if minimal) for PS Vue. Anyone using it on an Android TV box?

Our issue is that there is almost always someone home watching tv.

Unless you're doing a lot of other stuff or have other people in your household streaming as well, you'd have to be streaming 11-12 hours a day on average to hit a 1 TB cap. I'm with Cox in San Diego, where TV PQ was a bit better than Vue - though Vue has gotten better, and I use 400 GB month tops, even putting my TV on for background noise.

Apparently Sony is limiting the ability to fastforward on certain channels. Has anyone run into this yet?
PlayStation Vue Quietly Changes How Their DVR Works - Cord Cutters News

I had a problem this week with "Preacher" on AMC. I just thought it was a weird glitch, as that's happened a few times over the past year where a recording glitched - wouldn't playback or it exhibited other odd behaviors that made it unwatchable on my PS4. Other AMC shows and episodes (from prior weeks) still work fine. And I was able to fastforward this episode of "Preacher" using the 10-second skip on my FireStick and the time bar slider on Android.

I believe someone in this thread predicted that would happen with IPTV. Wow. Happened quick.

Well, Dish doesn't let me FF through their advertisements they (or the networks) run on their VOD & the apps/websites all run ads, so not that different I guess.

Until this week, it was very different. PS Vue's cloud DVR function offered a cable/sat DVR-like experience that was separate from its VOD offerings, which don't allow FF. Two separate things like any live TV service (DVR vs. VOD).

Apparently Sony's becoming more like Hulu's "free" DVR on its live TV service, which doesn't allow FF. If a DVR doesn't allow FF, it's not a DVR, it's a VOD app.

I just wish Sony wasn't so sneaky about this. I spent way too much time trying to figure out my problem with "Preacher" this week (restarting app, reinstalling app, rebooting device, testing on other devices, etc.) And we still don't know which channels are affected officially. Anecdotally we only know of AMC and Velocity. Someone said FX, but I watched "Snowfall" last night without any restrictions.

Aside from SlingTV DVR's restriction with Disney Channels, does it have any FF restrictions on DVR'd shows when paying for the DVR service? I'm finally thinking of switching, or at least finally trying it out. Just need to buy a Roku or FireTV Box first.

Could be a glitch, Some have reported FF working. Don't believe anye Cordcutters says.

I'm not ruling out a glitch (fingers crossed), but others on Reddit and in the PS Vue Facebook group are reporting similar problems across other programs and channels and devices.

Regarding CordCutters, the site's owner/writer often posts clickbait articles based on unconfirmed rumors and is usually quick to highlight Vue's shortcomings, so yeah, I'm taking it with a grain of salt and doing my own research by posting here and elsewhere.

I personally haven't noticed the issue, but I haven't recorded anything on those channels in the last few weeks.

Someone cue me in because I've been away from Vue for a while, I tried to rewind LIVE CBS programming that was supposed to be recorded to DVR, but had no success whatsoever. They don't save Network(ABC,CBS,Fox,NBC) programming to DVR? CBS is the only network with live programming in my area.

It has to be a glitch. I just recorded FX AMC and all ESPN's. No problem fast forwarding at all . I even started FTWD again and it worked.

The guy that does CCN jumps to conclusions all the time.

If you start a live program that's still recording, you normally need to hit the arrow-down button to access the menu at the bottom of the screen and then hit the 'return to beginning' |< icon, and then FF to the part you are looking for from there. You can only ever rewind a few minutes of live, even for shows in your DVR list. If you still have a problem, switch to another live channel, and then restart the recorded program in question by accessing it via My Shows.

Have they fixed the issue yet where recordings would stop too soon and cut the ends of shows off?

They've auto-extended the time for sports programs. I personally never have a problem with the last part of a show being cut off. It happened once on my PS3, but the same show was fine on my PS4, which was how I caught the final minute.

I don't think it is a glitch. Sony is going the way of DTV NOW and getting more on demand programming. So far, I am getting a choice for My Shows vs On Demand frequently and I like the choice. The way I understand it, as more and more channels come to realize they are going to miss ad dollars, this will be their solution.

Many are reporting that the Dvr is working fine. Cordcutters news is a Hack he has no clue what's going on in the industry.

Interesting comment by KaysGramma in the CordCutters article in question. I thought I'd post it here before it gets deleted there. ;)

Did your parents refuse to buy you a PlayStation as a child? Or did Sony refuse to affiliate with your site? Your negative reporting on PlayStation Vue has gotten so blatantly obvious. You "did some digging"? Where? On Reddit? The PlayStation Community Forum? "PlayStation Vue Quietly Changes How Their DVR Works", is based on NINE COMMENTS in a community forum & 20 comments on Reddit (several which have been deleted), discussing an issue seen on ONE network & experienced by only a couple of users! No official word from Sony, no comment from unnamed sources, and you appear to be the ONLY site reporting this. Did you even consider talking to current subscribers and see what their experiences were before reporting on this? "Cord Cutters News was able to reproduce this issue and confirmed that it is happening on PlayStation Vue. So far nothing leaves us to believe that this is a glitch but Sony has yet to respond to our request for comment." -- how exactly did you reproduce this? Because I can tell you that I can fast forward through the commercials on ALL the programs saved to my DVR and even some of the commercials within OnDemand videos. Maybe Sony hasn't replied because its a non-issue. Maybe there haven't been any changes to their DVR & they're not interested in promoting stories behind false & misleading headlines. Last week, you falsely reported that Sony was raising their prices, when in fact, they did no such thing. They eliminated discounted rates which were originally offered to compensate for something they are now offering to almost everyone, something YOU have reported on consistently for the last year. Why not tell the full story -- the HONEST story -- rather than sensationalize it for a few clicks? Why not report that Sony is the only streaming provider thats actually LOWERED their subscription rates since first launching, while making huge improvements? If I were a Sony rep, I wouldn't be interested in talking with someone who goes out of their way to misrepresent facts that casts a negative shadow over my company. The way you report a story goes a long way with your readers. Its almost if you want them to get angry & leave Sony & head on over to a competitor like Sling, a company you so obviously have an interest in.
