I decided to sign up for HBO Now. Watching a movie now and 1 hour in thew stream has buffered 50 times. HBO Now says they require at least 3mb connection. Mine is 174mb so I quess that isnt good enough for them. Netflix has none of these issues. Will play another few movies as a test, otherwise I will cancel this Piece of Chit service

I've been using HBO Now, purchased through iTunes, for a few months now. It has been rock solid, never had buffering ever! I have used it via my Vizio Display app, Apple TV 4K, Roku Ultra, and Firestick 4K. My internet is 90 down. I am hard wired to each. Perhaps wifi is difficult with nearby neighbors using up the wifi bandwidth.

I don't understand. We have HBO through Amazon Prime Video. One of our TVs supports the live stream (live view of main HBO channel at any given time), but the other only supports the on-demand selection. We thought we are going to have to watch on the live one (upstairs), but a couple of minutes before 8PM (central time zone), the GOT demand selection downstairs popped up GOT season 8 episode 1, and we watched it there (never did try FF). So we did watch on Amazon, on demand, and not delayed.

Oh, I stand corrected. I was only basing my specuation above -- about Amazon holding back the on-demand version for 1 hour -- on what eddie willers had reported, which is that by a couple of minutes into the live episode (so about 9:02 E / 8:02 C) he still wasn't seeing the new episode available on-demand from Amazon Channels. But he has since reported:

The opening credit sequence is so important that at that point, I never went back to check the On Demand series tile.

The only thing I can confirm is that it was there at 10:05. For all I know, though, it could have been there at 9:05.

Not sure why he wasn't seeing the new episode available on-demand right at the same time you did (8:58 E / 7:58 C). (Maybe seeing a new episode pop up in the app requires you to refresh the page by jumping to a different section of the app and then back to the GoT page?) But based on your report, and eddie's clarification above, apparently Amazon is NOT holding back new episodes of GoT from on-demand streaming until after the live broadcast finishes.

I think I used the curlicue "back" button to leave "live" and go back to HBO Channel. Maybe hitting "Home" and then navigating to the HBO section would have refreshed the OnDemand. It will remain a mystery (to me).

Next week I will go there at 9:00 EDT and if it isn't there, I will cool my heels until is is up.

I didn't want to wait until the following Monday. But an hour?....no sweat.

We watched GoT on Amazon On Demand. Probably started around 9:01 EDT. It was just there. No issues at all. We did FF the credits at the end to see the preview for next week, and we paused a few times to get snacks/drinks. It worked flawlessly for us.

I really do hope HBO eventually comes back to Dish - the HBO Now via the Prime Video Channels is a great option for watching stuff like Real Time live and of course your Amazon credentials work for HBO Now. My problem is the Comcast 1TB Data Cap, I have Netflix 4K and play videogames (I still buy physical copies but the patches and playing online takes its toll). Combine that with FaceTime, BackBlaze and iCloud backups, WhatsApp calls I frequently reach very close to my 1TB limit. Hopefully Comcast revisits their policy - they upped it from 300gb to 1TB back in June 2016.

I did exactly what I said I was going to do and went through iTunes so AT&T only gets 70% of my $15. That'll show 'em!


Now we need to get caught up with "Last Week Tonight" and I see "Barry" has started its Season 2 run as well.

Combine that with FaceTime, BackBlaze and iCloud backups, WhatsApp calls I frequently reach very close to my 1TB limit. Hopefully Comcast revisits their policy - they upped it from 300gb to 1TB back in June 2016.

I watched on my Fire Stick 4K and via the Amazon channel and it was there at 8:57PM Eastern (could have been before, but I was watching the other Season 8 behind the scenes stuff and when the one finished I looked and it was there).

With the changes in viewing habits and so many stream a lot of their programming even if they have satellite or cable, the need for the HBOs/Showtime's, etc is drawing more to the end. At least for the masses. When a person can sub to Prime and get so much more for $10 a month/$120 a year and get free shipping via Amazon. There will always be the premium movie channels in some form or another, but what percentage will be streaming, that is the question.

Today on CNBC they were saying they know not all of these premium movies services are going to service. Even if they break even the holding company is not going to be satisfied.

Well, 100% of Dish HBO subscribers may soon have that decision made for us, one way or another. Seriously, it would be nice if Dish would simply remove those 300's channels, if they are not going to be bringing HBO back, and stop stringing us along.

Thanks! I will check that out, right now I am using my own modem to avoid the rental fee and am on the Blast Tier for $49.99/month - $15/month is A LOT cheaper even if I need to pay a rental fee (what speed tier is the xFi Advantage?)

I think getting unlimited data via xFi Advantage requires that you're on at least the 250 Mbps internet tier, which I believe is what Blast! now is. Pretty impressive that you were able to get that fast a speed for just $50 a month. I recently jumped on a deal to get standalone Performance tier (60 down/5 up) for $30 the first year, then $40 the next and I'm quite happy with that.
