To answer your question: generally speaking, new episodes/films from those sources will become available to stream on-demand from Amazon within seconds of when that title debuts on their live channel.* So I would expect that the season premiere of Game of Thrones will be available to stream via Amazon Channels (as well as via the HBO Now and HBO Go apps) right after it starts on the live HBO channel tonight.

I have said this before, but I still think it is funny that the on-demand version becomes available as soon as the live feed of the episode starts. This means that someone could fast-forward through the episode and send spoilers to people who are watching it live.

Unless you have information that clearly says they don't, I am not convinced they do not shoot in 4K. In fact I have a link that suggests they do. Streaming it or presently making it available in 4K is another issue. They may not want other outlets to have it in 4K when they themselves don't do it. Supposition on my part. It's also why I too pointed out to him that Amazon 1080P is so good that it can appear to equal some 4K.

Oh no, I'm sure they've shot the entire GOT series in 4K (or on film, which can be scanned to digital at 4K resolution), given that season 1 is now available, as you point out, on Ultra HD Blu-ray. But I'm also quite sure that HBO does not provide 4K versions of any of their content via the HBO subscription service right now, regardless of how it is delivered, whether via cable, satellite, IPTV, or streaming, and regardless of which app/provider it is streamed through (HBO Go, HBO Now, Hulu, Prime Video, etc.).

At some point in the future, HBO will flip a switch and announce that their subscription service now offers select content in 4K (and hopefully 4K HDR), just as Netflix and Prime Video have done for years now. When that happens, the entire GOT series will likely be available for streaming in 4K and this will create a new frenzy around a series that has already finished. My *guess* is that such a move will coincide with and somehow be tied to the launch of WarnerMedia's forthcoming new subscription streaming service launching this fall, which will reportedly be largely built around HBO.

OK. So I went to the Amazon HBO channel at 9:00 PM. The On Demand for ep. 8.1 was not up yet. I went back to live and stayed there until the "previously on" started and then went back to the On Demand. No luck so I went back to live and was almost furious that it would not even let me pause the show! The first time THAT has happened since I got my first DishPlayer 7100 back last century.

Anyway, I waited through the credits see "next on.." and then went to the kitchen and the bathroom. When I got back Barry was was on and had been for 2-3 minutes.

I went back to the HBO "series" box and GoT 8.1 WAS there. In all its glorious pix and rewind and everything! So, at least by 10:05, GoT OnDemand was up.

The funny thing is I went to the Barry OnDemand and it had the newest episode running at the same time as the "live" version. So, I don't know if GoT was held back an hour, or that it didn't start until after the "Previously On" ran out. I did not go back to check once the new opening credit sequence had started. But I know that next week I will wait until the show is "over", to start it.

That's why I posted his question had questions. I was surprised it was in 4K on demand but since the Fire Stick will tell you when it's 4K I thought he saw that and was stating a fact.

This is probably for the same reason I pointed out in my earlier post: they do not want people who are watching live to give spoilers to people who paused the show.

This sounds like a marketing ploy: switch to Directv Now, and get to see GOT before anyone else does.
Or perhaps it was a ploy to ease congestion on the servers, so not everyone was trying to watch it all at the same time.

Another reason I have learned to live without HBO is they dropped Boxing. I watch boxing when it is on and nothing compared to HBO boxing. But Showtime has good boxing matches now. I may not like the announcers Showtime has they pale to who HBO had.

Hmm. So Barry got the usual treatment, which is that Amazon Channels made the on-demand version available to stream at the same time that the episode began airing live. Due to all of the hype and special interest around GoT, I guess it was treated differently, with the on-demand version held back until just after the episode finished on the live broadcast. As others have said, this was likely to avoid folks FFing through the on-demand version and tweeting out spoilers minutes before they aired on the live broadcast.

As Michael252 posted above, it looks like HBO placed the on-demand version on HBO Now and HBO Go at the same time the show began airing live and simply disabled the ability to FF until the next morning. I don't recall them having done that with any past seasons of GoT. Apparently they're treating this final season differently.

My guess is that Amazon found it to be too much of a hassle to temporarily disable FF capabilities in their apps like HBO did and instead just decided to hold the on-demand version back an hour, which is just as effective if the goal is to prevent anyone seeing anything ahead of the live broadcast. I guess that's what they'll do with the remaining eps too, so you may as well wait until 10 PM each Sunday night going forward to start watching on Amazon.

That's interesting. I had a different experience. I was watching live on TV via Xbox, but as soon as the credit sequence started on my laptop I checked and S8 Ep1 was available. On the Xbox, I backed out of the live feed went to the GoT series and there it was. I was able to pause it several times for interruptions from my kids. (A broken pop socket on a phone was a major issue!!) I did have a few buffering issues though. I suppose that is to be expected.

If the grand scheme is to have HBO totally online, they are ahead of themselves. This is typical of AT&T, I've consulted for them in the past, that they push so hard they'll push a project out the door way early. On the fail, now everyone's on the hotseat. I can already hear them saying this morning , 'how will we avoid this next week?!" It's a constant panic there.

The opening credit sequence is so important that at that point, I never went back to check the On Demand series tile.

The only thing I can confirm is that it was there at 10:05. For all I know, though, it could have been there at 9:05.

But since I am perfectly fine watch a new episode of Killing Eve (paused for twenty minutes, of course) while GoT is streaming live, since it will be up when I am ready.

I decided to sign up for HBO Now. Watching a movie now and 1 hour in thew stream has buffered 50 times. HBO Now says they require at least 3mb connection. Mine is 174mb so I quess that isnt good enough for them. Netflix has none of these issues. Will play another few movies as a test, otherwise I will cancel this Piece of Chit service

I don't understand. We have HBO through Amazon Prime Video. One of our TVs supports the live stream (live view of main HBO channel at any given time), but the other only supports the on-demand selection. We thought we are going to have to watch on the live one (upstairs), but a couple of minutes before 8PM (central time zone), the GOT demand selection downstairs popped up GOT season 8 episode 1, and we watched it there (never did try FF). So we did watch on Amazon, on demand, and not delayed.
