The Jay Leno Show: Born Sept. 14, 2009 - Died Feb 12, 2010

The Jay Leno Show averaged 13.2 million last night to once again win his time-slot. Enjoyed seeing Robin Williams.

NBC: The Jay Leno Show (3.4/10, 13.12M)
CBS: CSI: NY (R) (1.9/5, 7.50)
ABC: Primetime: Family Secrets (1.4/4, 3.98)

I only watched part of the premiere episode. I am still irked that this drivel is taking up 1/3 of NBC's prime-time lineup. We get only 1/2 a season of Chuck and 1/2 a season of Heroes because of this. Boo.

I don't take the ratings seriously this week; 1) it is new; and 2) the other networks have not fully started their fall seasons.

I was just thinking how Jay's audience must be aging, moving the show up 90 minutes lets a lot more stay up for it.

Seriously though, it is not a show I will frequently watch, maybe just when they have interesting guests.

When you mention drivel, you're obviously talking about upChuck and Zeroes, right? There's a reason NBC is in last place out of all the major broadcasters...and that reason has nothing to do with Jay Leno who has delivered stellar late-night ratings the past 17-years. Chuck will soon be swapped-out for a show named Kent or Scooter, and a Heroes will soon be replaced by Biggest Loser: Miami. ;)

Additionally, if anyone thing the Jay Leno Show is going to win the ratings against the prime-tme lineup...it's not going to happen. Instead, Leno will finally give NBC some solid numbers in the 10pm slot and the show should win the 10pm time-slot during the 4-month rerun season. Leno is on contract to deliver 46-weeks of live programming. If NBC had more than 2 or 3 decent shows there is no way they would be moving Leno into their 10pm slot. They do not. In fact, many of their shows draw less than a 5-share...no, not 5% of a particular demographic...I am talking about a national audience of five people watching their horrible programming. With the exception of America's Got Talent and Biggest Loser, NBC should wipe-out the entire primetime lineup and start fresh.

While I respect your opinion, I certainly do not agree with it.

I rarely stayed up for Leno when he was on at 11:30pm, but I have been recording his show the past 10. I still don't plan to watch it live...I'll record it and watch it when I get time.

HaHaHa. Leno was telling a joke, "A 60-year old man in New Jersey was arrested for masturbating while driving." Someone from the audience yelled-out, "Pee Wee" at which time Jay probably realized the joke was inappropriate based on his evening's guest. Anyway, the punchline concluded, "well, it's apparently illegal unless you have one of those hands-free devices."

Would this be considered a carjacking? :D

Nah, watched Inside the NFL... will catch up on the weekend, Howard Stearn has a vendetta against Jay I guess as he keeps harping on how the ratings are falling... Jay should Dump on Howard... ;)
Actually, they are falling. Tuesday night he was in last place of the Big Four shows.

Same again for last night. Lowest numbers yet. With Mentalist and Grey's, not much chance of that changing tonight. NBC claims they can still make money even if he his continually last. So there is the new broadcast business model...profit from mediocrity.

If they fully satisfy their objectives, it isn't "mediocrity" per se, at least not objectively. If NBC was being honest about what they needed, this is a big win for them and not bad for their affiliate news shows. And that's going to go down like cod liver oil for the folks who were hoping and praying for justification for their condemnations of NBC. It is becoming clearer and clearer that NBC made a great decision. The key to understanding that is evaluating the decision in a manner other than one's own personal preferences, and instead evaluating the decision as a decision, as a choice between reasonable alternatives for best satisfying the objectives of the enterprise itself.

I suggest folks who hate this development start praying for another network to follow suit, because it seems increasingly obvious to me that Leno is going to last four or five years, at least, unless his audience is undercut by a strong and significant direct competitor in the same genre.

Another thing that is becoming increasingly obvious to me is that the nature of the broadcast television audience is changing such that that it may no longer worth offering that much scripted programming on broadcast television anymore -- that perhaps broadcast television is the best home only for reality programming, vacuous teen dramas, and inane comedies.
