One of the things I really missed about the D* DVR/Remote was the ability to switch between a recording and a live show with the recall button. I like to be able to do this while watching, for example, an ESPN show, all of which have painfully long commercial breaks. The D* recall would allow this while my E* 612 and 722 would only recall live channels.

I thought my Hopper was set up the same way, except that I had the option of recalling 1 of 4 previously viewed channels.

Out of boredom this morning I was looking at the Hopper remote and found a small black button marked Pair. I hadn't used it before so I pushed it a few times and noted that it acted like a 2 channel recall button. Just for drill I set it to a live channel and then started watching a recording. With hope in my heart I hit the Pair button a few times and, hallelujah, it switched between the recording and the last live show watched. My prayers have been answered. Thanks, Dish.

The pair button does the same thing as the swap button, the sat button is used instead for pairing.

PIP and swap allow you to quickly switch between two programs. Programs can be either live or DVR playback. You can even pause then swap to retain the current time for when you swap back. You don't need PIP active to swap between two programs.

BTW, the down side to this is Hopper ties up two tuners all the time so PIP/swap has something to go to. That is unless PIP is playing back one or two DVR programs.
