Ended up finishing season 5 tonight. Surprised they addressed the Alex issue already but it made sense. Probably another year for the final season.

No, Bobby is with Avasarala. I bet it will be Bull. He grew on me.I was hoping for “some disfiguring accident” that kept the character but allowed for a different actor. Or, just swap him out like they did with Arjun Avasarala.
I hope they don’t replace him with Bull. The Rosi needs the best Pilot in the System, and it isn’t Bull. Bobby probably makes the most sense for now, but she has a different arc in the books that would make for some awesome episodes.
It was quite the opposite, and the showrunners responses when directly asked about it insinuate that was the plan all along without directly answering the question (they do a nice little tap dance). There is clear evidence they reshot/CGI-ed some scenes to get rid of Alex after the initial filming was completed. Just look at the reception on Luna, where Holden and Naomi are canoodling like it's all good, everyone's happy, nobody's close friend is dead, and there's an empty chair (where Alex had been sitting) across from them. People have uncovered the original footage with him there in the Amazon Prime Xray feature before it got removed.I've read they did not have to change anything after announcing Alex would not be returning. It was filmed that way already.
They started talking about killing a major character early on, but then waited to kill said character until *after* the entire season had been written and shot? We are being totally gaslighted, which is the last thing I expected from this show's creators. From here: The Expanse: The Complicated Legacy of Alex Kamal | Den of Geek
I don't really care beyond that.

If they followed the book a bit closer...article said:“And if everybody made it at the end, there was no cost… nothing’s going to happen to them; they’ll always get out of danger. And at a certain point, you start feeling like that doesn’t feel real.”
I vote for Bobbi !I was hoping for “some disfiguring accident” that kept the character but allowed for a different actor. Or, just swap him out like they did with Arjun Avasarala.

She has her own arc to fulfill; plus, she can’t pilot the Rosi and her MCRN Goliath mech suit at the same time.I vote for Bobbi !
Disappointed only 6 episodes to close it out.
Curious if anything is planned for the remaining 3 novels.
You don't say, kind of why I said "the quasi-spirit of". Beginning of Season 5 they shifted plot on the proto-molecule, but at the end of Season Five, showing an indication they realize there is more stuff to button up... ie the whole renegade Mars portion of the plot.No. Persepolis Rising, book 7, jumps 28 years into the future. That part of the story is beyond the scope of the six season TV series.
