I am a movie collector and one of the things I am trying to find is some air tapes of a satellite channel from the 80s called American Exxxtasy. I imagine there are a lot of old schoolers here that have been doing the satellite hobby for decades, and someone HAS to have tapes somewhere. I just want to experience the nostalgia of those breakers and promos. The movies themselves are not important to me. I just want to go back in the Wayback Machine and see what we used to try and peek at over at my grade school friend's house.

Can anyone help me out?

I'm still trying to figure out how the State of Alabama shut it down....? If they didn't want to watch it, they could have easily turned the channel......
If they are going to Censor television in Alabama, it shouldn't have effected the whole of North America...??

Apparently each state has more or less power to do anything about a given television service.

As far as I can remember, one of the last c-band adult programmers was not able to sell their programming to residents in six states (probably because of their bible-thumping or other laws, the AG's were more powerful in those 6 states than the other 44 to carry out some kind of legal action against an adult programmer).

I don't know if DISH and DIRECTV have to restrict sales nowdays or if if those AG's have lost their power or the programming is so diluted in hardness that there are no more sales restrictions.

Its kind of sad that a pay TV service can be censored in America-even an adult one, I thought they were only allowed to do that with over-the-air channels?

The porn is as Hard-core as it ever was.
Though, what passes for porn, leaves a lot to be desired, compared to 25 years ago.
A friend of mine used to have a video store, and I was really bored by what's being delivered now days.

I once saw a post on the Dish Network portion of our forum where the guy lived in Tennessee, and was thinking about moving his service address out of state so he could subscribe to one or more of the Dish porn channels.
So, I'd have to say the states -do- enforce laws about porn being delivered inside their borders.

But then, I have relatives in a dry county in Tennessee.
No booze sold at all.
However about 10 miles down the road at the county line is a big package liquor store.
All the good folks in XYZ dry-county sneak down there to stock up.
Shame the county gives up all that tax revenue, but that's how they want it.

I don't indulge in a lot of either, but won't give my right to do so if I choose.

A little off topic for this request but...

I have a recorded promo for the Sci-Fi channel before it actually started in the early 90s. At first it was a screen of moving shapes with a sound that eventually evolved into a voice with names of programs. I think it had a countdown running.

Finding new feeds is still as much fun today.

I know sandpoint idaho blocked MTV

I know sandpoint idaho blocked channels like MTV on there cable channel. This info is like 10+ years old and I was looking for something to back me up. It involved when MTV was having shows like Beavis and butthead on and such. They didn't want there kids to be affected.

If anybody has additional info on that. They can chime in.

Later,

Josh

My memory may be fading on the subject, but if I recall correctly, I thought that the whole American Exxxtasy shutting down fiasco started because some high-school kids were caught bootlegging video from that channel, and one of the important points is that they were using a modified VC2 decoder to obtain the programming without paying?

Someday I'm going to get back to researching that era. I've been collecting Boresight News episodes, K-Sat satellite radio broadcasts etc trying to pull together enough info to put it all into a published book. Back in the late 80's, it truly was an awesome time to have satellite TV. The picture quality of the analog signals was stunning. *sigh* Anyways, sorry to get off topic..

As one who watched the channel at times, I can say that for the most part it was ITC. Sometimes it was clear, sometimes it was scrambled. But, there were plenty of stealing going on then, as well as now. And I think you're correct on how it was supposedly started towards it's downfall, except I believe it was College Kids and not High School Kids?
I wish I at recorded some of those movies........

one word

S O C K S ! - :D

Don't know how we got to this point, but . . .
...having never seen the channel, now I kind of wonder what they had.
But not enough to really care.

from what I remember American xxxtasy wasn't on 24/7 , it started at night ( same as Playboy) but they would give you a freebie , the 1st feature was free and the rest were scrambled , back then I was a Junior in H.S. and didn't realize how many friends I had , once my classmates knew I got porn via BUD they were all at my house.

I didn't watch that channel often eventhough I was curious , I was 16 and more into Inspector Gadget ,cartoons, and T.V. shows that played into the night and early hours of the morning via WOLD communications who was feeding the syndicated shows all over.

bible belt

Davage was right, and I believe it was high school kids in Montgomery (capitol) who were selling bootleg copies of pirated porn-movies. Our caped crusader AG at the time filed suit against the programmer, the uplinker, forget who that was at the time, and a few other states joined in. Our 'yutes' had to be protected. lol
In the end, they agreed to just block subcriptions to those 6 states. Maybe the former AG wasn't as powerful as he thought, he was unable to totally shut down the business. The programmer and uplinker prob feared a cascade of similar legal actions, and caved. I don't think you can subscribe to any of those channels now, in this state, but I don't have DBS service and haven't tried.

Other adult channels not to be forgotten.

Westar 5 .. Jan 1983 ... and all in the ¨¨clear¨¨

1) The Pleasure Channel
2) The Fantasy Channel aka F.U.N channel ...(fantasy unrestricted network)
3) The Hilife channel

I seem to remember exxtasy ITC, maybe fixed key. But anyway, wasn't there a woman on there who would smash all kinds of porcelin (capodimonte?) during promos? Sort of funny at the time....

Regards, eric
