Grey's Anatomy starts in a few weeks and the wife wants a DVR.

I been reading about the Tivo stuff and was holding off but I think it will work itself out.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger.

Called Radio Shack about a 625 'cause I wanted to put it in myself.

$349.

Ummmm....no thanks.

Called Dish and winced when she answered. I figured this wasn't going to go well. I really thought about hanging up and spinning the CSR wheel again. But I decided to give "Mary" a chance.

And to my surprise this went great. She said I could get a 625 for $99. But there was a special and I could get it for $49.

And then since I have AEP and auto pay they're gonna give it to me free! (For a 24month contract.) I've been with Dish since '98 so I'm not going anywhere and there is no chance of ever getting cable here.

We hear some stories about all the "Mary" CSRs out there but this one seemed to have it together. I think they must be getting some training and are really working at it.

I'll let you know how the install goes. I'm going to pre-run the cables so all the installer will have to do is hook it up and make sure it works. I'm sure he'll be glad he doesn't have to crawl under my house. If he brings a 522 though he'll be leaving with it.

Now if he brings a HD receiver we might talk about some HD....

We're only allowed to upgrade people to 625s if the Work Order calls for a 522... the system won't even allow us to put in a 522 in place of a 625, so no worries there.

That may be true for your office, but with the critical short supply of 522/625s, we've been given the go-ahead to use either.

That won't last long... once people realize they are being shorted 50% of their recording time... I'm surprised CSRs are even allowing you to do this... last time I tried with the IVR it wouldn't allow me to without speaking with a CSR.....

522 does have a 100 hours. but im one of those users who deletes something right after i watch it. not a real repeat watcher. i bet there are a lot of customers where a 522 is perfectly ok and provides an excess of recording. but if you know your needs, then go for what will make you happy. if you already have the hd tv, might be wiser to upgrade to hd now instead of later. then you wont have to possibly pay a new upgrade later and lose all the recordings you put on your new 625.

UPDATE:

The install is done and went very well. The installer was glad to see I pre-ran everything.

And the best part is I got a 625. So far I like it.

People say PIP doesn't work in dual mode but I hooked up TV2 output to my TV1 with the RCAs and I can use PIP on my tv remote. I have to have the TV2 remote to change the PIP channel but it works. I guess they mean the PIP on the TV1 remote doesn't work but you can have PIP in dual mode.

Wow! Free 722 from a 942...
