Yeah they already made their wad by charging us 921 owners $1000 for a box that's barely worth $200.mike123abc said:Maybe if they are marrying the technology from the 811 with the 522 they could price the 942 box under $500. I suspect from the comments on low price the 942 is going to be as in expensive as possible.

Scott Greczkowski said:Ok folks here are some photos from Team Summit. You will see a few interesting things.
For those who have no idea what your looking at I do plan on explaining things better when I can.
For those of you who have technical questions about new products I will be starting a special thread, I will take your questions to the Dish folks tommorow for them to answer.

When they announced the VOD plans in the assembly, they stated that DISH has been holding back a portion of the hard drive for VOD and other services. Your 100 hour available recording space is only a portion of the DVR's available space. You will be able to simply pull up a list of available pre-recorded shows and decide whether or not you want to watch them. I also understood that some of the VOD features would be like TiVo's current setup, where it just randomly records stuff while you're not using the receiver based on your likes, and then you can watch it at your leisure.SimpleSimon said:Ya - really. What's the big hoo-hah difference between PPV and VOD other than getting a start-time a little closer to "now"?
I'm gonna guess that it's really nothing more than using multiple feeds for the same movie with a smaller start time offset than we see now. Right now, there's FOUR movies that are each starting every 30 minutes.
If so, it's just another waste of bandwidth that could be used for HDTV, especially considering how many DVRs are hitting the field - even 30 minute starts won't really be needed much longer.
Thanks for the reply, but I gotta say that that sucks. I'd much rather be able to use MY HDD the way "I" want. And before you go there, I have a 501 and a 921 - they ARE my HDDs.Mainstreet said:... The VOD service will reside on your DVR's hard drive.
