Hey All,

Been researching on your forum and on the net all day for help, and decided to finally post my problems and hopefully you can help.

We are working on getting satellite to work at our tailgate and have run into some interesting problems.

Setup:
  • 1000.2 lnb
  • Dish is a circular Dish Network dish (do realize we won't get hd) on a tripod mount purchased from a Dish installer.
  • Receiver is a 722

We have a coaxial going from the first lnb output going to a splitter that splits it to the two inputs on the back of the receiver for sat 1 and 2. We setup the satellite and point the dish as the correct azimuth (we have tailgaters right next to us using Dish as well and have identical angle to the sky and our dishes are only 3-4 ft apart). We first run a check switch with nothing connected to clear any previous connections (as this box is used at our home). We then connect everything and run the check switch again. It always fails with xx's and red boxes across the board. Now no matter how many times we run the check switch, we are unable to get it to pass. When we then reconnect the lnb to our dish at home, it works without any problems (rule out bad lnb). We have successfully gotten the exact setup to pull a signal at our house with a terrrible line of site to clear sky. Once we get to tailgate, sure enough we fail to get passed the check switch. We have tried several coaxials, as well as various ways of connecting the dish to the box (removing the splitter etc)

My question to you, is there something we are fundamentally missing? Would being slightly not level or barely of the correct azimuth cause the check switch to fail completely?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if I didn't provide enough information, let me know anything else you might need to know.

Our tailgating location is 2 miles from the house the box is registered at.

I would suggest doing a check switch when you get to the stadium next time. Just go to the point dish screen and use the high pitch noise and bar at the bottom to help point your dish. When you do the check switch there and it comes back bad, it will be hard to point.

When we do the check switch at the stadium it does not even come back successful enough to give us a tone to aim. It completely fails and doesn't even give me a tone.

Are there any particular reasons it would completely fail?

Do not run test till you get signal on dish, if you have same dish (1000.2) no need to run test at all.
Cover 110 and 129 Lnb with foil, select 119 tp 11 on dish point screen, find signal.

I'm confused by your second inventory item. Is the dish a Dish 1000.2 or some other dish?

The 1000.2 LNB will not work without serious and comprehensive modification to some other kind of dish.

He is right dont run the switch test until you have signal all this will do is cause problems and not work and also, standard stuff did you make sure that your coax was pluged into the right port on the dish it has to be on port one if theres only one receiver. And also you said splitter, you can you a splitter with dish make sure you are using a seperator not a splitter. Make sure that the ( SEPPERATOR) !!!!!!! is hooked to the right ports on the receiver, and see if that works

And lastly dish receiver are not meant to tune in dishes they are meant for checking signal, they have a huge lag when tuneing so when you have it tuned in your already past the right spot, remember boys and girls your aiming a 2 ft across pice of metal at something the size of a dinner plate 23000 miles away buy a cheap meter.
