Greetings. I am considering switching over to DISH from DTV, but I have a quick question. A guy at work wants to sell me a 942 for a great price. My question is, will it work ok with a new account? Do I need a new card? Sorry if these questions are elementary, just not familiar with the DISH world.

Dish will activate it with no problem. However, you need to make sure there is no PPV balance on the box b/c Dish will make you pay it before activation.

Get the R00 and S00 numbers and call DISH 800-333-3474 be sure that the 942 isn't leased and your co worker owns the receiver. He can't sell you DISH'S leased property. :)

I chose to lease my 942 because, then, if/when they upgrade to MPEG-4, there is a better chance to get that upgrade for little or nothing through Dish, if I don't own the 942. The lease fee is $250, but if you use a Club Dish Referral, you get $50 credit, making it effectively $200.

Anyone w/ OTA reception problems in Chicago?

Lot's of updates scheduled for today!
