Subbing without an Authorization Reset?

I just read in another forum of someone simply selecting X4, sitting there a bit and subbing it without doing any type of reset! Is it possible, that these 4DTV units could always have accepted a hit from either 4160 or 4096? Both streams show up on my DSR-410's menu screen (can't see which stream is showing on my 920)
