Went to watch the Buffalo Toronto game on the NHL Network and it was blacked out. I could understand it if MSG was showing the game, but it isn't. It is only on the NHL Network. TWC is showing the game here in Rochester NY.
Any ideas why the black out?

FWIW, I checked last night and it wasn't blacked out for me.

I would expect that. Your not in the MSG RSN area. I am. Luckily, I also have TWC. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse last year. I had the lifeline super basic cable package in addition to internet. I went to cancel the cable, but they offered me basic digital cable, a dvr and a digital box for less than $8 more per month for 2 years. So I was able to watch the game on NHL Network over TWC. That's why I thought it was strange. The only difference is that TWC does carry MSG.

Yeah...Your local RSN is carrying the game. It does not matter if your provider does not provide the channel. It's still blacked out.
So, if one is a Sabres fan and lives within the territory of the Sabres, they are out of luck if they have Dish...Same applies to all the NYC teams and in Philly as well. I believe also that Dish subs in LA can no longer receive Lakers games because Dish does not carry their service.
Dish is for the most part, anti-sports.

The game WAS NOT on MSG. It was only on the NHL Network. If the game had been on MSG I would have understood the blackout.

This happens all the time.
I live in NC....Up until this upcoming season, there were about 10 HUrricanes games that were not televised. There were a couple of instances where NHL CI subs in the Canes territory could not view the game even though it was available on CI through the opposing team's feed.
So even if an RSN is not carrying a game, the RSN holds the rights to that team. If the RSN has no coverage in place, the Team is still under contract to that RSN. The other outlets are blocked from showing that game in the team's territory.

Can you NOT read! I checked my local RSN on Cable first. I can get MSG on TWC. They WERE NOT carrying the game. As I have stated several times already in this thread, the game was only on NHL Network. If it had been on MSG, I would not have been able to watch the game on TWC cable on the NHL Network.

Please read the entire thread before you post a stupid reply!

I did not see that post. I edited my post so the time stamp is later than the original post. I don't think he had posted that reply when I originally replied to his earlier post.
If that was true, why was I able to watch the NHL Network feed on TWC but not Dish. By his reasoning, I should not have been able to watch the game on TWC because MSG has the rights.
The blackout of Sabres games on CI here in WNY is the reason I do not subscribe to it. I have been using satellites for over 25 years, back to the days of open wild feeds and backhauls on my 10ft dish.

I had to go back and look again, and then it made sense.....you have TWC but you're in Rochester so I'm guessing you don't get CBC. Game was on CBC so people in Buffalo with TWC were able to watch it. If you have Dish, DirecTv or FIOS, you were blacked out in Buffalo from the NHL Network.

The blackout rules are stupid in cases like this. But the people who made these rules are not the sharpest tools in the shed.
