I got a new setup and can't seem to get it up and running. I just got through tearing the whole dish assembly down and checking everything and putting it back up. I have a coolsat 4000 pro receiver with a 32 (or 33) inch dish and a rotor sat hh90 motor. The directions are not entirely clear to me as I don't know most of the terms. I am in Odessa, TX. 79762. I set the motor to 32, which I believe is my latitude, and the dish to 40 according to what I discerned in the instructions. I pointed the dish due south but I have no idea which satellite is due south of me or how to find out. Please help point me to the next step. Thanks..

If I may assume the one in red (amc 1) is the satellite due south of me, how do I use this information to get a signal. Is there a becon?
 
Well yes, you enter the above Frequency/polarity/Symbol rate and watch for signal QUALITY as you aim the dish. I do not have the Coolsat. It would be a GREAT idea to have a channel already stored on your receiver before you add the motor. I would remove the motor and find/store the above channel without it for now.

These values have to be entered in the antenna set up screen on the receiver, then aim the dish and watch the TV for signal QUALITY.
 
I'll give it a try in the morning. Thanks for the help. By the way, where do you get these values? Are they different for each satellite?
 
Search google for Lyngsat or Satcodx, they have data on sats. Values differ for each channel. Is best to mount dish to pole to start, log a channel first then worry about motor. You'll be twisting the dish around a bit, may tend to slide down pole. Find short (2") piece of plastic pipe about pole dia, cut plastic length wise, wrap around pole, secure with hose clamp. Be paitent, takes a bit of time to find first sat.
 
Morning folks. Gotta say thanks again for all the help. I am encouraged now to keep trying! If I remove motor and go with pole alone, do I set the dish to my latitude? Also, I don't know what it means to "log a channel" . I really am as dumb as I look.
 
Use the above information, all the angles for the satellites are there, just pick any satellite and use the angles given. Enter a LIVE TP./Channel then aim the dish until you see signal QUALITY.
 
I bought a new mast, very heavy. Got it all lined up and level again, this time without the motor. Set everything and checked it twice and nothing. I even cut new coaxial cable to make sure. No matter what I do I get signal at 15. Even with the cable out, I get 15! I give up! I've been making fine adjustments for the last three days and never got signal quality better (or worse) than 15. I am beginning to think my brand new receiver is a lemon. By the way, I know ya'll have tried to help but what does "Enter a LIVE TP./Channel" mean?

It means to use a LIVE (an actual verified in use/on air/broadcasting) channel that we can see right the second you are working to setup (enter it manually if needed). That way you can be assured you are looking for something that is really there.

For AMC1 (103.0w) I would try to use the Pentagon Channel @ 12100 V - 20000-3/4
 
If you are not using a motor, you will have to use a different dish elevation (the actual elevation), which you can find here:

Select the satellite you're trying to hit and it will give you a map. Its a little difficult since the map is very small, but use your mouse to point and click on the map to where you live, and the site will return your dish elevation and azimuth (compass) settings (for use without a motor).
 
In the list of satellites I gave you for your area it lists both true and magnetic positions......
 
That answers my other question about the az(t) and az(m)! On the receiver there is a place to enter lnb type. Choices are single, universal, and ocs. Which do I put in? I have a coolsat brand ku-lnbf model cs-lnbl rf:11.70/12.20Ghz if:950/1450Mhz lo:10.75Ghz gain:60db noise figure:0.6db . Also, the lnb has two cable ports. Am I supposed to hook both up?
