Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Found another. I think the one above was actually the one we saw at the end of the last episode.

Just watched the new one, very good but intense episode, they should do something about the pace of the season, as this was sandwiched between the comedy of the last episode and the musical ( which I am dreading) of next week, followed up by the season finale, which I assume will be action packed, probably involving the Gorn.

I loved the comedy episodes of the OS, but mostly because there were few of them.

Not much comedy on the Next Generation, DS9 ( save for the Tribbles episode), Voyager and Enterprise.

Yeah I get that this episode was a shock compared to the ones before it and the one coming up. It was a little like you've been watching Hogan's Heroes and then all of a sudden someone sticks in an episode of Band of Brothers. (Dated references be damned.)

But let's put that aside for a minute. It's about time Trek talked about the effects of the Klingon war. Even in the time of those old scientists, it wasn't that far behind them. It must have been incredibly traumatic and no one talks about it. Even more surprising because in Kirk's day, they're about to enter into a second Klingon war before the Organians intervene. This episode does a great service to the people who were actually serving between 1966 and 1968, and who never came home the same.

Perhaps not my favorite episode but I do recognize that it was very well done and gives Pike an opportunity to actually be a captain not just a cook. (Although in this episode he does both.)

Last bit of rambling: has anyone read anything about how they're doing those incredible backgrounds like the Engineering set and the planet from this episode? Is it an AR wall like The Mandalorian, is it greenscreen, or something else?

AR Wall for the Planets, some screens like engine room, some sets are real, Bridge, Transporter Room.

I do have to say, that blue in the transporter room looks great, really amazing how it is in Dolby Vision.

This is often discussed in The Ready Room if you aren't actively watching those episodes as well.

I doubt they use green screening since most of the backgrounds are CGI and can be rendered by the AR wall.

You can say that again! I wasn't sure about the Ambassador starting the fight. In fact, it seems to me that the Klingon was more like the Federation than M'benga.

I believe that was the goal, war changes people, some the better (Klingon Ambassador maybe), some the worse ( Dr. M’benga and Chapel).

By the way, we now know what a MASH unit would look like in Star Trek.

I believe that was the goal, war changes people, some the better (Klingon Ambassador maybe), some the worse ( Dr. M’benga and Chapel).
The point was that M'Benga was forced to murder his own people (those wounded stored in the transporter pattern buffer) much as Dak'Rah felt compelled to do.

He confronted his demon and his demon was no worse than him.

It was a good episode. I enjoyed it. Reminded me (at one point) of an old M*A*S*H episode with the manual heart massage by Chapel to keep the guy alive...

This season, thus far, has a very different feel to it vs. the first season, with 2 episodes to go...and then who knows when we'll get season 3...

Indeed. But Dak'Rah claimed he had overcome his own demon and just wanted to help M'Benga do the same.
That only serves to make M'Benga's inability to reconcile his issue more frustrating. It is perhaps a tradeoff for not being recognized as another "Butcher of J'Gal".

Well ****, you are correct, getting a Buffy flashback right now.
Watching now while on the Lifecycle, super major Buffy musical flashback right now.

So far a copy, Buffy-musical opening then characters are in the magic shop talking about what happened.

Star Trek-musical opening , followed by the characters in the ready room talking about what happened.

If the show does this again, I will quit watching, the dancing at the end did it for me.

Way too many light hearted episodes this season and it looks like I was correct, next week is a Gorn centric, which means action.

Humor episodes worked for the OS because there were over 20 episodes in a season, able to stretch them out, when a show only has 10, it becomes too many.

And it was a total Buffy rip off.

I keep hoping for some Klingon Opera… At least this cast has some musical chops.

I’ll look for a Joss Whedon nod in the Credits.

Plus, another non-standard Opening Credits.

And really, to deal with the Infinite Improbabilities, all they needed was a really hot cup of tea.

postscript: it wasn’t as cringy or horrible as I expected.

I could not make it past a minute after the music began. Such a blatant Buffy ripp-off.

Glad you agree, the dancing Klingons was too much for me.

What I understood was it make people break out in song ( lyrics), got that, but where did the underlining music come from.
