Spontaneous random infomercial recordings?

Dish Pass allows you to type in key words and it will search all channels for shows that match up. I posted an example in post 13 but you can have it search for really anything. The way you are doing timers it only looks for programs on THAT channel
For instance, you could create a Dish Pass timer that searches for "Clint Walter" in the description of any show on any channel. ;)

Recording things you don't tell it to record (aside from the 2-minute ads from Dish once a month or so) isn't normal -- I have no idea what TheKrell is talking about, unless he thought you were talking about those.

That is exactly what I thought we were talking about. Apparently Dee is accidentally recording full-length infomercials off the OTA tuner. I have never experienced that particular annoyance.

Hmmm... Maybe there is a dish pass timer that is hitting key words causing this to happen.
I don't think I ever messed with Dish pass, not that I recall unless I accidentally got into that menu in the first days when I first got it.
The first week or two it was totally alien to me and I was like "ARRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT IS THIS STUFF?!??!? and it was making me bonkers.
I'm still not out of the woods yet..

I'm going to sit down tonight and go through ALL the timers and events and see if I can weed out any errant stuff.

I did discover yesterday that a timer had been set for it to record all episodes of Penelope Pitstop on Boomerang.

The only thing I can figure is that I fell asleep the other day when I was watching that cartoon and rolled over on the remote and mashed buttons.
It's radio now converted from IR so it doesn't have to be pointed at anything and even laying on the remote can send button presses.

I can't think of any other way that happened. Maybe the same thing happened to cause it to record these infomercials.

If nothing else, I could reset it back to factory settings and start over fresh from step one.

factory on a dish receiver isnt the same as factory on a FTA receiver. Dish receiver just nukes the favorites, timers and a few other settings. The remote address stays the same as do locals logged in the receiver

If you remove all timers that pretty much would do the same. Just check timers on dish pass first. Also its a good idea to write down timers you have set so you dont forget one ;)

I've had a lot going on the past few days, I haven't had a chance to sit and go through all the timers and settings.

Most likely I'll try to go through them on Sunday. Sunday there is never anything on TV all day so I won't be distracted.
I've also found some timers are conflicting with others and preventing things from being recorded.

Like Auction Hunters. I made a timer to record ALL episode. I wanted to catch up on all of them from the beginning. But for some reason it was not recording NEW episodes.
So I made a timer to also record NEW episodes of Auction Hunters. Well, it finds them in the guide but red X crosses them out and says it can't record them because there is a locked event to prevent that.
HUH? I checked the timer that records all episodes and there is nothing set on it for locked or protected. Something is crazy.

Well when I try to over ride the timer it says it's going to break something if I do. My option is to not record or break other timers.

I'm extremely confused what the heck that's about so I'm going to just delete ALL the flippin timers and start over.

The one and only timer I have set to protected is Cheyenne and it records only once a week on Saturdays. I set that timer to 1st priority and protected with unlimited recording #..

I think I need a class on this. It's one thing to set a timer. But understanding what happens when there are conflicts, the help menus don't explain all that stuff.

you can sort the timers by priority. The higher number gets priority. Its really thats simple.
Dee sometimes you over analyze things way too much.

The lesser priority recording the receiver tries to find the next episode that meets your parameters (new or all as example) and records it then. But again if a higher priority show is 1st then it wont record that time either. So the shows that have numerous repeats I try to put them lower on the list so for me at least when I had the 211 or even my R22's it would hit those 1AM dupes of shows.

Yet another Kudo to DIRT
