The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with winger Kris Versteeg on a US$9.2-million, three-year deal, the club announced Wednesday.
The 23-year-old had an impressive rookie campaign, leading all first-year pros with 31 assists while ranking second with 53 points. He was fourth among rookies with 22 goals earning him a nomination for the Calder Trophy as the league's top first-year player.
He'll earn $3.08 million per season, a substantial raise from the $490,000 he made last season.
"Kris' tremendous rookie season was a big reason the team was able to go as far as it did," Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon said in a statement. "He is part of a core of young players that is going to make this franchise successful for a long time."
Versteeg, who was named to the NHL's All-Rookie Team, finished third in the league with seven short-handed points, which included four short-handed markers, tying a franchise record by a rookie.
He also recorded the first-ever goal at Wrigley Field when he scored 3:24 into the Winter Classic 2009 on Jan. 1 against Detroit, finishing the game with two points.

Don't get your hopes up, you'll hate the let down ....
Remember, they will NOT sneak up on anyone next year....
You'll be lucky to get home ice in the first round of the playoffs.

The Ducks and The Wings wil still plow over the Hawks...

Not even close.

Detroit will still be good, but I'm a bit iffy on Anaheim.

Pronger's departure will hurt a lot, I don't know if Hiller can avoid the dreaded sophomore jinx, and whether Scott Niedermayer can carry the defensive load all by himself.

Penguins will good for at least a few years as long as they keep the core there.

As long as Hossa is a Blackhawk, they will not win the Stanley Cup.

You can have the Stanly Cup. The Red Wings and Penguins will be competing for the Stanley Cup, not some misspelled imitation.:D

It will be nice to renew our hatred towards Chicago, after all those years of you're not having a NHL team. Come back and jabber AFTER you eliminate the Red Wings. See you in 2015!

The Vince Lombardo trophy- finally, a trophy the Lions can win! :D:D

We're working on the Guy Lombardo trophy!

That one's for the real old farts around here, like me!

Too funny! :D

Wings have lost a ton of guys this off season ... the subs better be ready for full time work next year.

Juri Hudler signed with a team in Russia, imagine that, I can't imagine the difference in pay.

The Wing's offer was a two year deal for $6M. Dynamo is paying him $10M - tax free.
