Hello i was wondering if anybody here has one of these new sony (KDS) models? If so how does the picture look also the black level?

I cannot speak for this model, but I did just order this to replace the crappy, never liked it 52" LG DLP

Should have it by next week and will report.

Sony KDF-60XS955 60in LCD Projection TV

This will be my first LCD. I was very disappointed when I lived with this DLP and kicked myself in the butt for not spending the extra on another pioneer Plasma, so after saving about 2K to get this Sony at 60" over another Pioneer Elite Seriese 50", I hope I can live with it. Looking at similar Sony's in SAMS Club, I believe I can, but if it is not what I hoped, it will go on fire sale and I will stick with Pioneer Plasmas as I should have, just the wife gets a little upset at my electronics spending.

I did a side-by-side comparison between a Mitsubishi WD-62628 (1080p DLP) and the Sony KDS-R60XBR1 (1080p SXRD) and the Sony wins hands down IMO - the SXRD is a great set with outstanding PQ and excellent black levels. I have a Mits Diamond CRT RPTV and a Sony LCD RPTV and I can tell you the black levels are quite good on both the new sets. Are they as good as on Mits CRT? I don't know if I would go that far, but this is the first non-CRT set I've seen that I would consider replacing my Mits CRT in the HT room.

I have been given the go-ahead to purchase this set, but I think I'll for the prices to drop another $500 or so.

I too have seen this tv finally compared to other 1080 displays and it does win hands down!! Like you i will wait for the price to drop a bit so when i buy the stand its like getting it for free.

The HP 1080p sets have also been getting fantastic reviews, and unlike the Sony's (or Samsungs), they pass a 1080p signal through HDMI. This is important to people with HTPC's and Blu-ray coming down the pipe.

MD5880N 58" MSRP $3999
MD6580N 65" MSRP $4999
