Smart card question

My old JVC 3000? is starting to flake out. (no surprise given it's age) The problem being is that it has now gotten into the habit of giving me a "the smart card is not inserted correctly" message. I just take out the smart card and put it back in to make the thing happy, but this is getting more frequent. So, does anyone have any suggestions on cleaning the thing? or is this the normal death dance for a smart card?

I'd try a very thin cloth dampened with isopropyl around the front of your SC, insert and eject the card with cloth in and out a few times, it should clean the contacts, or damage something internally.

Use a pencil eraser on the contacts of the card.

another thing you can do, tape a business card to the logo side of the smart card, this will help make contact with the card slot contacts, as they are probably the culprit given the units age.
