Skewing DTV36EDS dish for G10R...

--Hi, all. I just got my dish put together and was wondering what position I needed to skew the dish. The dish is a DirecTV DTV36EDS, which is 36"x24", and it came with a circular LNBF and a linear LNBF. It is a dual LNBF dish and it was originally meant for the DirecTV satellites at 95° and 101°, but I am actually hoping to use the dish for G10R at 123°.

--I visited Sadoun.com and looked at their stationary dish aiming chart Satellite Look Angles Satellite Heading Calculator Azimuth Elevation Skew Tilt LNBF Latitude and Longitude values and the only thing I am wondering about is the "LNB Skew". Their aiming calculator reads 35° for the LNBF skew at my location (I am in zip code 74728), but since my linear LNBF does not skew (when the LNBF is put in the holder on the dish, there is an indention that has to line up, therefore no allowing of the skew).

--So, looking at the back of the dish, should I simply adjust the skew to 125° (I've uploaded pictures of the front and back of the dish)? It would certainly SEEM that simple, but what made me question it is when I started looking at the aiming calculator on the Sadoun.com site. There are several choices in regards to dishes. For example, there are two different DirecTV dishes and five different Dish Network dishes to choose from. The two DirecTV dishes give me skew values of 68.8 and 80.9, and the Dish Network values are all different as well. Now, I don't know what skew value I should use. Any ideas?

--One last question regarding the linear LNBF this dish uses. I've read that this LNBF is strictly horizontal polarization. Is this true? I'm just curious, because the assembly manual reads: "DirecTV programming on the 95° W satellite is H polarity. Set the DC bias to 18V to select H polarity." To me, that sounds like the LNBF can indeed change from H to V polarity...at least I hope it can, lol.

when skewing the dish, you take the numbers from 90. So in this case you would skew the dish to 125

I honestly don't know. I've heard that they only use H polarity so the LNB is single only.

When I look at the first pic, that LNB almost looks like a stacked LNB which will get both polarities but they log as one polarity (usually V only but you can force it H)

Try and lock a vertical polarity TP on G10 with the KU LNB.....if you have difficulties, use the DBS LNB and lock on 129W. Then you'll be close to 123 (actually...you should be nuts on 123). If you do use the DBS route, use 12457 V 20000 or 12414 H 20000 as a transponder. Most of 129 is HD and most boxes wont lock it
 
Don't know about that lnbf, but once you find G10, you can skew the dish far enough that it will see the vertical polarity, if thats all you want it to see.
Imagine it works the same with any llnear lnb, I can turn one of these old primestar lnbfs the wrong way (usually by accident!) and it will pick up the transponders. If skewed too far, the receiver will see H as V, or V as H. Maybe you can find the right skew value, and it will work for both, but I've never tried any of the dtv lnbfs.

looked at lyngsat .....looks like tp 15.....11990 H is used -- 11480 L to 11685 R is used for Latin America.
you might just have to
to convert transponders to dish pro -stacked- all vertical (use channelmaster).
if the lnb only gets horizontal tp then there might be a good chance to put a 121 lnb on (a so called fss stacked lnb){use with DiSEqC Switch as single or dp switch multi} (ebay giveaway) flange looks same.
If it is a P170+ FSS Single Polarity LNB 11.7-12.2 GHZ and I think it is then it should receive H and V see pdf (eagleaspen webside).....
Going to let you know when i find out more.....

the Directv int'l dishes the LNB on there is a standard LNB but if I remember its single polarity
 
I think for most members just starting out that they have enough of a problem just trying to find G18. Couple that with a dish not suitable in the first place, will make it even more difficult.

Save the aggravation and buy a 36" dish and standard LNBF.

At the highlighted......why is it necessary to add 90° to the Skew on a dish? I mean what is the logic behind it?:confused:
 
I have never worked with one of these dishes - but the picture of the skew adjustment system - makes it look to me like the three skew adjustment bolts are in backwards. How does a person get a wrench to them once the dish is attached?

I usually put things together wrong the first time, too.
Someone either didn't have a picture to work from, or didn't look at it.
Nutz on the front would make a world of difference! - :cool:
 
The reason on those dishes you add 90 is because most dishes when you skew the dish start at 90

LNB's start at 0 :)
 
old thread .....but finally I set up a DTVP36EDS as pictured for the galaxy19 (aka.....galaxy25, intelsat5 or T5). all tps H and V without changing anything (standard lnb and 10750 settings)....worked like a charm good quality an all tps .

....I thought it seems to be a very good alternative (Slimline design dish) compared to a 80cm fortec star or DS2076winegard dish, or a worldtv dish (plastic very strong Q.). It should work with dp34 and dp44 switch because it a FSS Lnb however I do not know for sure.

Show us a couple of pictures of the dish installation.

Eagle Aspen makes all sorts of LNBs in that same package.
You said it's Standard, with a 10750 LO
And voltage switched for Vert/Horiz selection?

If so, then you wouldn't want to use a Dish Network DP34 nor DPP44 switch with the LNB.
Those switches can be used for systems, where all LNBs are bandstacked.
