Should I switch to E*?

My 2 yr agreement with Direct is expired...

Here are my particular concerns, etc:

#1) The pic quality for SD channels on my HD receiver is krap..All my
other TV's look fine in SD. E* have same issues?

#2) I would change HD receivers, but I here directtv is unleashing
the MPEG4 technology later this yr and would prob get screwed......
Any concerns like this for Dish?

#3) Whats the price diff between a HD DVR between the 2 companies?

#4) It really urks me that D* doesnt have a good Adult station(Playboy) that
you can purchase for a monthly fee, like I believe you can on E*......
Give me a freakin break 10.99 for a movie? Get real..Who actually
pays for this...Thank god for internet porn.


Feel free to throw any any other reasons (installation a hassle?)
why or why I shouldnt switch.

I recommend you find a local friend with HD E* then look at their PQ for comparision, hopefully on a TV similar to yours. Some think D*'s PQ is worse than E*'s on both HD and SD. It's all in the eyes of the beholder - YMMV. I've never seen D* on a large or HD set so I can't comment first-hand.

With E* you can get the ViP622 2-tuner HD DVR installed with all dish(es) and accessories for $299 up front and an 18-month commitment. The ViP211 (no DVR, one tuner only) for $49. Both are MPEG-4 ready. You can also purchase and activate these units - E* still allows that option. New subs might also get an even better deal. Not sure what D*'s prices are for comparable equipment. Check their website or call their service number - but since you are a current D* sub. they may offer some special packages to keep you, so make sure you tell them you're planning to jump.

Regarding Playboy, etc., I don't sub to those so I can't provide details. I know there's a bunch of (soft) porn for PPV on E* and I think the Playboy channel is also available, but it's likely $10 to $15/mo... Sorry, but you gotta pay to "play"...
