Not 100% sure where to post this, but the Dish forum appears to be more active than the DirecTV forum.
So I've been a loyal DirecTV customer for over 4 years now, with three HR22 HD-DVR's. I want to upgrade to either the Hopper or the Genie, depending on if I stay or switch. The main reason I want to do this is so that I have a central location for recording shows, rather than having to deal with 3 separate DVR's on the 3 floors of my home and coordinate recordings manually among them.
From what I can find online, Dish and the Hopper seem to have "better" / cooler technology than DirecTV, as well as lower programming prices per month. The Genie/Clients appear to be essentially the same thing as the Hopper/Joeys (this is where I need to learn more, which one has the better hardware or features).
I can sign up as a new Dish customer and get the Hopper and 2 Joey's installed with the Top 200 plan for about $59 during the promotional discounts, $91 per month after promo discounts and about $115 up front (including a sling adapter and first month's service)
I called DirecTV and said I wanted to either get the Genie or switch to Dish, and they offered me a Genie, two clients, and installation for $20. Not a bad deal. But they could only lower my monthly cost to about $95 per month. And no sling adapter.
Either way, I will have to sign a 24-month contract with either provider.
SO..... What would you do? If anyone has any thoughts I would appreciate it.
