I moved into a house that had a D* setup. It has only a single LNB dish. When I called to subscribe they convinced me to get HD. Great. Well when the installers came they told my wife the would not be able to get the HD signals. They also refused to even leave a standard receiver since the invoice was for HD. Well it was Monday night and I wanted to watch the game so I bought a receiver from CC on my way home and called and activated it. Anyway now I have decided I have to have HD. I went out and bought a 52" HDTV. I bought an AT-9 5 LNB dish from ebay. I also bought an H20-700. I also have a 1000' spool of good RG6 coax.
Here's my issue. The dish that is installed now is on a 4 foot pole in the yard and appears to point right at the tree line. I think I can get a little better LOS on the roof attatched to the chimney. Either way I have a feeling I'm going to be cutting down some trees. The D* pointer tells me I need to point at 38.7 by 222.4 degrees. Here's the question. Pointed in this direction, what kind of viewing angle do I need to clear out of the tree line. What I asking is how many degrees to either side of the 222.4 do I need to get all 5 satelittes.
Right now my plan is to mount the dish and hook it to the receiver and see what signals I get. Then look at where the dish is pointing and start chopping down trees untill the signal gets better :)

Thanks

damn, all I gotta say is good luck.

you probably don't have Line of Sight for the 119 and possible none for the 110. they do come in lower in the sky.

Before you start chopping down trees...remember we are using offset dishes and not prime focus dishes. Offset dishes will fool you as to exactly where the signal is coming from. See the attached pic:

If you are east of them, yes. If you are west, then they are higher.
