Scott's General Assembly Thoughts

The cruel irony here is that the locals in the DMA where I live are still 77 CONUS, which will be unaffected by the new 61.5 SAT, but not needed for me.

Hey Scott ..

Did you get any video of the upcoming GameCenter (or was it Game Finder) app supplemented by Thuuz? I've been looking for a video. Also, in the same vein, did you get any video of the upcoming Music Hub and the apps that DISH is working on internally??

Finally, in the Echo booth did you see the demo by MOVL's CTO Alan Queen. Amazing stuff going on there. I'm not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but DISH/ECHO has hired MOVL to develop, according to Alan, thousands of apps freely distributed through DISH's own version of an app store. Curious about your thoughts ...

For me the other big news was the news of OTA and integrated Hopper support coming this summer. Now a lot of folks were expecting this, so they might not consider it news, but I got to be honest, with all the work they have done on the Hopper in just a few months time, this really is the best DVR system ever made. With the addition of OTA and dual hopper integration there really is no reason in the world not to get one.

.

I just canceled my appointment for the Hopper/Joey install due to my sudden realization that I will lose my ability to manually record my favorite radio shows on Sirius channels and TV shows on OTA sub-channels that don't have programming data.

This is a MAJOR DOWNGRADE from the 722 receiver.

I understand the manual record function was removed from the 922 and that's the code Hopper is based on. However, I think it's a major mistake to remove that feature. I guess I'll be stuck with the 722 receiver forever :(

You can set a manual timer using dish remote access. The OTA tuner may be released this summer. You might hold off for a few months on the hopper until they release the OTA USB tuner.

Since timers set from DRA usually never work it really makes no sense to recommend them.

-3! An unreliable workaround is better than no recourse whatsoever.

Hey Ralph, we gotta get these eggs to the street market.

Sorry Mike, the elevator is broke and the stairwell is locked. We can't get get the eggs to the street market.

That's OK Ralph, thank god gravity still works. We can throw the eggs out the window and still get them there.

Great thinking Mike! We're so blessed having this backup plan!
