Scott Talks Joeys with Vivek Khemka (VIDEO)

Ok folks after 7 hours I got the video to upload!

I will post a new thread later but for those who want to see it now... here it is!

Excellent interview! Hardware wise the Hopper is going to be hard to improve on. Yes extra tuners in the Hopper would be nice, but the super joey presents a good compromise. Software can improve. The ability (like the TiVo) to have show recording time extended even if you have back to back recordings on the same channel would be a great improvement. Many times I do not watch shows in order and you get the last minute of the previous show on the show you are watching. When you go back to watch the previous show it cut off because the next timer fired.

The next hopper may have better 4k support, but I think as he mentioned it is not a priority right now until the industry settles. Having it come out next year (as he said chipsets at the end of 2014) will still be in plenty of time.

Vivek has been the BIGGEST BLESSING we have ever received from DISH. He is the first to really understand the SatelliteGuys members and he knows his stuff. There is nobody better in the industry then Vivek. The thing I love about him is he loves this stuff as much as we do! For him I don't think its just a job its a passion.

I met him once. He's a really cool guy.

I like when Vivek mentioned they were working on a way to resolve scheduled recording conflicts in a two hopper system. It's not tuner integration but having one hopper tell the other to take over a scheduled recording would resolve that problem.

Super Joey tuners are fully integrated with Hopper's tuners, user experience will be like having a 5 tuner Hopper.

Which would of been really what they should of built in the first place: A 5 tuner hopper that would use the dual node and then you could have had no tv conflicts from the beginning . But then DISH wouldn't of been able to charge the extra $7.00 fee or will it be $10.00 Fee? IF not at first ,I am sure it will suddenly go up by the next time DISH re-figures all their various fees.

* updated: I just watched the video and it does look like Vivek said the super joey will be between the price of the reg. joey $7.00 and the 2nd hopper $12.00 so I guess $10.00 it will be.

I liked that idea too, but hope that we can turn that option on or off. I could see that causing a problem.

For example, "Dad" records a show on Cinemax but his HWS's tuners are maxed out so it records to "Billy's" hopper. Some restrictions need to be worked into the tuner conflict resolution and an option for user control.

I've talked to Vivek a couple times at Team Summit but last year was the first time that I talked to him and he knew I was an member on Satellitguys. He talked to me like I was just a regular guy that loved satellite and I was really impressed. There was no programmed response like he would have for everyone else, he treated me like an equal. I really appreciated that.

I was happy to hear that to, I had previously said I was bummed that it sounded like live tuners between two Hoppers wasn't going to happen, but the timers would be the next best thing!

I'll have to go back and listen but I thought he said something along the lines of that when it records it will end up on "Dads" hopper...that's what I think I heard haha

And Vivek's response was priceless!

I laughed like hell when I saw that when I was editing it.

One thing is for sure if you go back and look at my interviews over the years I have gotten much better! I am almost comfortable doing them now.

I wasn't even nervous when I was doing my interviews with the WWE wrestlers.

Always helps when you are interviewing someone you know...and its pretty clear you and Vivek had a good rapport!

What was the "trigger and touchpad" remote? I don't remember that one.

Original plan for Hopper (& ViP922?).
