Scott Talks Joeys with Vivek Khemka (VIDEO)

I'm curious as to what the receiver configurations will be now. I'm assuming it will remain the same with 3 Joeys to one Hopper, so I think the max you could have is a Hopper, 2 Joeys and a Super Joey.(This would be for a single Hopper install only) The great thing with this install now is that every TV has it's own tuner and still has a free tuner for recording. So much better than the Hopper and 3 Joey install that Dish always seems to recommend.
While it's somewhat intriguing, swapping one of my Two hoppers for a super Joey, I think for me having the Two Hoppers/One Joey is the set up I will keep Sent from my iPhone using SatelliteGuys

Dish's MoCA should be able to handle a Hopper, a Super Joey and four standard Joeys for a six HDTV setup. Another Joey or two over Ethernet or wireless if needed.

Seeing PTAT running on "Tuner 5" was pretty slick. It gives me hope that slinging would work seamlessly too if all the HWS tuners were used up.

If I were King, I'd work on form factor.

I strapped a joey on the back of a flat screen to clean up the area. Should have a strap feature included in the box.

You buy a big flat screen to clean up the tv area and recover floor space.
Then Dish and the others send you a receiver that is horizontal and has to have a table/shelf to hold it and the maze of cabling attached to it.

They ought to have some alternate form factors (vertical).
Maybe take the hard drive out and connect by usb or whatever to thin things down (simplify hard drive replacement also).

Add duplicate connectors or right angle connector options so you can save space when hooking those stiff cables to the box by not having to add multiple inches to bend cables.

And add a usb or whatever connector with features that support a Dish supplied amplifier/sound system with similar form factor.
No more having to integrate sound systems and all controlled by the hopper system.

make it all vertical so it hides behind the tv.

The interior decorators would all specify it in their plans.

Serious? You tell me what providers offer you any better options than what Dish does. The Joey is nice and small and is able to strap onto the back of a TV already. Dish should not have to supply a strap for the few customers that would do this. Dish is now coming out with a wireless Joey so you can have a TV anywhere and be able to connect it. They also have a Virtual Joey which requires NO EQUIPMENT whatsoever to hook up to a TV. Does it get better than not having any equipment connected to a TV on the wall?

It does come with the removable plate which you can attach to the back of your TV.

Correct, but that doesn't work if your TV is mounted on the wall like all of mine (except one) are. That said, I just wrap the cord around the mount bracket and it hides quite nicely back there.

Yep, current Joey's come with mounting plate for wall or TV or cabinet. I just lay mine flat.

Did the possibility of an OTA module for the Super Joey come up?

I did not say any provider offers any better options , rather what I would like to see happen with the hopper (vertical profile with integrated sound system options). The CEC control protocol is flaky and does not cut it (probably not something Dish can fix) and sound system integration would fix that problem.

It's a bit of a stretch from the talk, but I gather there is no plan to have HWS #1 access HWS #2's EHD.

So you want to see the Hopper itself be smaller and be able to conceal it better?

I heard Vivek start to say 'swipe' when talking about the remote having too many buttons. While I wouldn't have too much trouble with that concept (I have an iPad Air), my wife would have a bit of trouble learning how to use the remote. I have a neighbor who has difficulty with the remote as it is. If they get too techie with the remotes, they're gonna lose customers that don't learn tech well, and there are tons of them....

Dish should keep a big easy just for those customers.

Correct. The Hopper probably can not be smaller in total internal volume, but could have a design option with same features that would fit behind tv (vertical and slim).

I really do not see Dish investing any effort in that due to the small amount of customers that would need it. If space was the biggest issue I'm sure Dish would just tell the customer to put the Joey there.
