SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Activity Report - Week Ending 04/07/2007

Not if you're on the west coast it's not CONUS. Technically it is but practically it's not. I can't see 61.5 anyway and any how. I had a dish at the peak of my roof 45 feet up and still couldn't see it.

the satellite is CONUS and people on the west coast can get it...remember voom??

Just because you can't get it doesn't mean the satellite isn't conus :)

Does this mean that New York HD viewers will get a big increase in recording capacity? A lot of reruns lately so I've been able to catch up easily, but it was a little hairy in November....

Our Washington, DC locals are in MPEG-4 = less DVR space and the fast forward is really FAST! :D

The way activity has been happening every couple of days, I'd sware the BellExpressVU uplinks guys are working for DishNetwork now....

I wonder who got yelled at about channel 625? ;)

SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Activity Report - Week Ending 04/07/2007 - 4 changes

Uplink Comparison Range: 04/05/2007 08:06A - 04/05/2007 11:51A - (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)

217 - WATER moved from EchoStar8 110W TP 14 ConUS beam to EchoStar7 119W TP 11 ConUS beam (A)
225 - B&F moved from EchoStar7 119W TP 11 ConUS beam to EchoStar8 110W TP 16 ConUS beam (A)
229 - ISHOP moved from EchoStar8 110W TP 16 ConUS beam to EchoStar8 110W TP 14 ConUS beam (A)
625 - MLB [MPEG2 SD] - EchoStar7 119W TP 10 ConUS beam changed to Not Available

Channels in the system: 3243
(A) = Available to subscribers
(NA) = Not Available

So does this mean that E* struck a deal for MLB EI? Wasn't the carriage of the MLB channel one of their big requirements?

I'd say it is just the opposite. They removed the channel that they forgot about until it was posted here as news.

RSNs in HD @ 61.5?

I've been watching the RSN posts, but have not seen anyone address this question other than to note that the RSNs are only available at 129. Does anyone have any info on whether E* plans to mirror these channels?

So far, I believe all HD channels on 129 are mirrored to 61.5 (I think there is one channel available on 61.5 but not 129, but don't recall what it is). With the move to MPEG4 encoding I don't see a compelling reason to depart from the past practice of mirroring.

Maybe Scott G knows?

Cheers,
Red

the HD RSN's are only available in the local market so why would they need to duplicate them on the other satellite?

Those of us with the multisport package get the SD version of every regional, so why wouldn't we get the HD version regardless of which sat location we're pointed at? There's a lot of anger over not seeing the baseball games, but the college sports usually aren't blacked out on the regionals, and sometimes a certain game isn't being broadcast locally. I remember being very happy I had FSN- Bay Area the year OU played Cal.

Since you asked... :D

Two reasons:

1) Precedent (as mentioned in my post above).

2) When I upgraded to the VIP622 during DishMover (from Maine to Texas) the equipment they installed was a Dish500 for 110/119 and a Dish300 that feeds into the Dish500 LNB for 61.5. I asked about equipment to receive 129 for the HD. The installer stated that since I had SkyAngel on 61.5 and the HD channels are mirrored I would not need 129. Now, I know this was primarily a move to contain the cost on my VIP622/DishMover installation, however I am now a subscriber in the FoxSW area who is unable to receive the HD RSN due to an installation decision that I had no part of.

Now, truthfully, I am not upset about the RSNs not being mirrored as I watch that channel very little. Based on the precedent of mirroring, I posed what I believe to be a legitimate question. If E* should start pulling HD off of 61.5, then I will be on the phone with them to push for a 1000 dish with the appropriate switch (at that time) for 4 orbital locations.

Cheers,
Red

EDIT: Looks like others have a similar problem http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?p=861828

I have the same problem, I'm in the south east and have a seperate dish pointed at 61.5. Mainly because I subscribe to Sky Angel and Dish said that would be all I needed since everything was mirrored from 129.

As far as I know, there is little to no HD material on most of the RSNs (excepting NESN and YES), except for the major sports games. When those games aren't on, the channel is dark, no simulcast of SD, just dark (that's the way it was when I had Comcast). I'd be suprised to see that some of the RSNs have college sports in HD.

I would just like to see them make the RSN HD full time, none of this switching every few hours. It would take about 4 TPs using their new MPEG-4 encoders.

I'd be suprised to see that some of the RSNs have college sports in HD.

They broadcasted 1 or 2 college football games every week all last year and they have stated a desire to broadcast all the major sports (incl. college football and basketball) in HD this season, just because it isn't on this week, doesn't mean it won't be on when the various seasons start. E* turned on the RSNs during the college sports dead period.

Bob that is the way I am seeing things as well.

Really silly for them to do this when their entire service is programmed for people in the Eastern Time Zone. Haven't you ever wondered why they don't carry the West Coast versions of many channels?
Is it just me 1 Are most of the markets where HD RSN"s are being turned on served by ATT hmmm

FOXSW and FOXS are areas that most installers have been using a second dish at 61.5 instead of the weaker 129 on a 1000. I would hope they mirror those channels for those of us that are setup by their installers to get 61.5 instead of 129.

And you guys were wondering before why areas were told to use 129 and some were told to use 61.5.

By the way this is nothing new...we knew these RSN's were at which orbital locations for a looonnnggg time. I know if I was a sports nut and wanted my RSN, I would have made sure I had a dish pointed at that orbital location a long time ago.
