SatelliteGuys Review: Logitech Revue with GoogleTV – A Diamond in the Rough

I have my Evo phone and Google TV and have been promised Dish on my phone through the app I downloaded. Yet when I go to load it it asks for my password which Dish said was my password for their account; but it doesn't connect. Do I have to buy the slingbox too? I thought the Logitech would have been sufficient.

The only receiver that will sling is the 922. The others require a Slingbox as explained on the TV Everywhere page. The Slingplayer app that I first used had to be set up through a Sling account which required the Sling password on the 922 or Slingbox. The new free Dish Remote Access apps just need your Dish account log in username and password.

No, GoogleTV won't sling.

I will be receiving a Google TV for xmas and was wondering if any members could recommend a wireless mouse that works with Google TV. I am not a big fan of track pad's, such as the one integrated into the Logitech keyboard. Thanks in advance!

Can the original tv remote still be used to watch tv? If I bought one of these, I would use its lots, but the wife still wants just her plain dish remote so she can at least watch her programs. I guess the question is, can the dish box still be used as it is now when the google box is connected to it?

Agree. The GoogleTV keyboard also has a handy button to allow instant return to DISH out of any app. The more I use it, the more I like it. This is not one of those devices that you have to backtrack out of.

I use the dedicated key (TV button) on the top row all the time, and glad it is there, but something to keep in mind about it. The key is defaulted in the keyboard controller to Live TV when your press it, and although it takes you to Live TV, it erases your Dish tuner buffer when going to your tuner, so I reprogrammed that key to be "Play", instead of "Live TV". So now it goes to my Dish tuner, but doesn't erase my tuner buffer. It just sends a "Play" command (which is harmless and does nothing if your tuner was already live and/or already playing, and merely un-pauses you if you were paused.

I have a question about connecting Google TV. Currently I run everything through my Denon receiver. I have HDMI from 722K to Denon receiver and then HDMI from Denon to TV. But I run an optical cable from 722K to Denon for all my sound. I don't have any sound passing through to my TV at all. So how would I set up the Google TV to continue running my sound through the Denon?

Remove the Optical cable from the 722k and put it in the Revue

Any issues with having "second TV out" hooked up while Google Revue is hooked up to HDMI?

On my current setup, prior to getting the Revue, my 722 provided a signal to both "its" television in the same room, and a second television, on the other side of the wall from the 722, by using an HDMI splitter/extender, because I preferred to have HD on both televisions. When I tried to add the Revue to the mix, having the DISH HDMI out go to the splitter, then one port serving the Revue and the second port serving the television in the other room, it got weird. I could still get the Revue apps, but when I tried to access the DISH receiver, no joy by either using the DISH remote, or trying the DISH app icon on the Revue keyboard, or the DISH app on the menu screen. Kept getting the "trying to reconnect to DISH receiver" message, but screen stayed dark. I contacted Google support, and was told that the Revue can only support one "clean" HDMI signal.

So now I need to provide a signal from the 722 to the second television. Wondering if I can use the component out ports or composite ports, and, and do I have to run the television in the other room as a TV2 setup, or, could I piggyback the component out signal the same as the one going out thru the HDMI?

Question is: anyone running a similar setup, viz. second TV out with component or composite cables, while using HDMI for the Revue and primary television? Google support said using second TV out with composite "will probably work." But before I go to the hassle of routing a set of component or composite cables after removing the second HDMI cable, I would kind of like to know if that is a fool's errand.

Guess if that doesn't work, might have to try a Sling to get a signal to the secondary television.

Thanks for any ideas.

I have that set up and it works for me:
Actually, my set up is slightly more complicated, but still works

722 TV1 --> HDMI --> AV receiver --> HDMI --> revue --> HDTV #1
722 TV1 --> component --> HDTV #2

I am currently running a 2nd TV using component in bedroom, while using HDMI and Revue in Den. Other than the first day I set it up, where I got a 'gray' screen in bedroom for a few hours, it's been working great ever since for the last 2 or 3 weeks.

That being said, I ordered a Monoprice HDMI splitter yesterday, hoping to get GTV on both TVs. I bought a Logitech mini-controller to use in the bedroom to control it. Splitter arrives Friday, and I'll mess with it before concluding it's a no-go. As I got the gray screen in bedroom the first day with my component connection, perhaps, all the reboots and such that I did cleared that up. Maybe your HDMI splitter issue will resolve itself. Do a power cord pull on the DVR, maybe even a check switch test, reboot the Revue...

I "sorta" doubt that the GTV needs a "clean"/single HDMI signal. Revue could be picky, but hopefully not. Is your splitter powered? I think more people have luck with powered splitters than not, and many people have luck with splitters in general, although I do know that some splitters seem to work well for some people, and other splitters better for other people. Apparently some TVs are picky...

Disappointed to hear that it's not working for you, but hopefully we'll figure it out.
