SatelliteGuys Review: Logitech Revue with GoogleTV – A Diamond in the Rough

Thanks for telling me about the Netflix thing thought I waas going crazy having to put on que before i watch it. My dish remote is not working on the other tv's in the house since I got the revue. (or even the tv the revue is on) It's like it is blocking it. Does this mean I have to turn it off completely if I want to watch tv in a different part of the house?

Well if it works like the Harmony Remotes do, it might have switched the remote address to channel 1. Without knowing how you are setup, that is my guess.

I haven't gotten it either. Maybe this is a rolling release.

Android does have the capability of having rolling releases much to the annoyance of anyone with an actual Android phone.

Ok looks like I am the only person out there who has got the upgrade. So here are some pics of what I am seeing. :)

Here is a video showing off the new Netflix. Nothing really interesting, just proving that I got this update (and it looks GOOD!) :)

I sure wish I knew how to get an update on this google box. According to their website they say all updates are automatic and you don't have to do anything to get them.

I got this update one night when I was watching TV. A popup came on the screen saying there was an update available and asked me if I wanted to upgrade I said yes... and this is what I received. :)

This looks a lot like one of the PS3 Netflix apps floating around out there. I'm going to call Logitech to see what the deal is with this Nov 22nd update. (KA1X-20101122.184803.user-b41730) . I'm going to call them anyway regarding the totally abysmal performance of all three of my Harmony remotes with the Revue. The Revue is not receiving IR commands well from any of my Harmonys, and have actually caused the Revue to reboot a number of times. (PS3 Netflix apps: http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/26/netfllix-executive-reveals-the-method-behind-its-multiple-ps3-ui/ )

At any rate, although I prefer the Roku Netflix implementation to what Scott has shown us, the new app looks great. Sure hope I can get it soon.

And by the way, I LOVE integration. Google TV will win out for me over Apple TV, Boxee Box, or Roku, since I can just instantly access a search, a podcast, an app, etc while still watching TV (mostly).

And Scott, can you look into why Dish/Google isnt allowing us to access/default to the mapped-down HD channels in the search results/What's On? Is there a way to actually do this? Any results return HD channels in the 9xxx range, which I've locked out, and would continue to be able to lock out...not to mention that the What's On is pretty useless, as it returns results of channels I(we) don't even subscribe to (Int'l channels, radio stations, etc)...kinda unwieldly...

Latest Firmware -Logitech

After all the input on the Netflix upgrade I contacted Logitech and asked for the latest firmware number, and what's going on with upgrades -here is their reply:

Thank you for contacting Logitech Customer Care about your Smart TV

The current Firmware version on Revue is 2.1 -update1. We are expecting the coming firmware update will be in December. Also we do not know if there is interface update for Netflix, because it is managed by Google.

We hope you have found this helpful. If you have any further questions please feel free to reply to this email and we will get back to you shortly. Thank you once again for contacting Logitech Customer Care.
Regards,

I just spoke with Logitech Revue support. I got what I expected to get regarding updates. They are global and everyone should get them. The build number has nothing to do with it. And I asked about build number several times because Scott's is lower than mine. Mine, for what that may be worth is KA1X-20101027.092418.user-b39953

Received call-back from Google (very rare but I know people) they advise the Netflix update is out globally, in addition I was advised another update is coming out right after the CES show in January, along with two major annoucements.

If its out globally then how come I am the only person with it?

It will be interesting in seeing what they have to announce at CES. If Google or Logitech is reading this I would love to meet with them and report more on this from CES. Please contact me at scott at satelliteguys dot us if you are from Google or Logitech.
