Satellite DVR

I'm in the process of making a decision of what options I need when I eventually sign up with Dish Network.

I notice they are really pushing their DVR with an upgrade fee and a per month charge.

Two questions
1) What is the quality of the recording? (HD if you have the HD services)
2) Can the recordings be transferred to a DVD or a computer hard drive.?
