Hi, i have a big problem with this satellite. It was working perfectly fine for a long time, and all the sudden, there is no sound. No one did anything to the wires as far as i can tell, so i dont know what the problem is. I checked the menu and obvious things, but i cant figure out what is wrong. i also have a couple other questons...

1)What is the best way to position this (we dont have enough wire, anywhere i can get more)?

2)Is this model very bad and old? If so, what should i get (something cheap please)?

3)i dont know how to upgrade firmware, it says i cannot when i try, but how can i?

4)Any other tips on this?

thanks tons

i checked for that...it doesnt have it. its coaxial or whatever. just one wire, and one cable labeled s-video.

did i post this in the wrong forum?
Well, I don't know where you post about issues with your personal satellite re:

:D

However, if you have questions about a satellite receiver, then you might choose the forum (dish/directv/fta) that relates to that type of receiver.

let there be sound

I used Google to look up the unit.
Guess it's a reasonably standard FTA unit.
Might be more common in Europe than the USA.

Found this install info: http://www.110220volts.com/Satellite/Samsung-Satellite.htm
Can't say I found anything pertinent to the problem you mentioned.

And here are some technical specs:

Looks like the digital audio out is via optical cable.
I would see if it has been pulled lose, broken, kinked, or crimped.
If you have a spare, I would replace the optical cable, if that is what you are using.
Then, double check the amplifier that the receiver is plugged into.
As a last resort, connect the receiver to the amplifier with two RCA leads for left and right channel, and change the mode on the amplifier to accommodate.
