I've noticed intermittent slowness also, weirdly mine is to a specific time of day, or so I've noticed. Around noon PST everything slows, in the evening unless I'm recording on multiple tuners everything is normal speed, morning hours if I'm watching seem fine.

What is a red button reset?

It's the red button behind the door on the left side of the Hopper. Very similar to the power button reset on other dvr's.
