Rumored price increase for 2/1/08

Yes, new subs and anyone without a price guarantee. At least as far as I can tell.

Thats how they used to do it. I used to pay for Dish anually in August. This locked in my rate until at least the following August. When the monthly prices increased during the year, they didn't bill me the difference. However, the following August's annual bill would be based on 11 months of service at the new rate (there used to be a 1 month discount for paying annually).

Dish offers a price guarantee and that guarantee stated top 200 & top 250, which went up last year, will not have another price increase until Feb 2009. If they go back on that guarantee then basically you will not be able to believe anything that dish tells you anymore as they give a 2 year guarantee every year when they raise prices. ;)

That price guarantee only applies to DVR Advantage customers with any AT package.

With this increase on regaler AT200 and AT 250 subs without a DVR, it will bring the monthly rate with locals to $49.99 and $59.99, which means those same packages with DVR Advantage will be the same price. In other words win the price increase goes into effect, their will be no DVR fee for one receiver for those who get DVR Advantage with AT200 or AT 250.

AEP Prices without HD
Late 2000 or early 2001 $69.99 + Locals @ 4.99 = $74.98
2/1/02 $72.99 + Locals @ 4.99 = $78.98 (locals went to $5.99 1/1/02)
2/1/04 $74.99 w/locals $79.99 (Local .99¢ discount w/ package instituted)
2/1/05 $81.99 w/locals $86.99
2/1/06 $84.99 w/locals $89.99
2/1/07 $89.99 w/locals $94.99
2/1/08 $94.98 w/locals $99.98 (Rumor)

With HD (Add $5 for locals except from 2/15/03-2/1/04 add $5.99 for locals)

2/15/03 $72.99 + $9.99 = $82.98
2/1/04 $74.99 + $9.99 = $84.98
2/1/05 $81.99 + $9.99 = $91.98
5/1/05 $81.99 + $9.99 = $91.98+ Optional Voom $5 = $96.98
2/1/06 $99.99 (Dish HD Platinum)
----For those keeping score, without the Platinum package, the price would have been
----$84.99 + $20 HD Pack = $104.99...
----but that argument is irrelevant since the package existed. It wasn't a "discount". It was a package!

2/1/07 $89.99 + $20 HD Pack = $109.99
2/1/08 $94.99 + $20 HD Pack = $114.99

Looking at that I dont think theres much to complain about, I wonder what the comparison would be to say Comcast or directv.

DIRECTV is about $2-3 per year increase. I got sick of seeing my DIRECTV go up $2-3 each year with no new channels in return so I ditched the DIRECTV DISH and got DISH Network.

My AT100 is locked in until Feb 2008 and since I've had DISH about 1.5 years, it's time for a slight increase, IMHO. If it's $2, fine. If it's $3, throw in MSNBC or a few more channels to make the extra dollar worth something over what I feel is a fair increase. And hold my new rate from Feb 2008 to Feb 2010 and I'll be fine for another slight $2-3 increase in Feb 2010.

I think I would go for a $5 increase if you throw in HD for the Top 100 stations that are in HD. I haven't upgraded to HD yet because I feel HD is not worth a $20 premium each month. I'll upgrade to DISH HD when the HD programming premium is removed. I have more than enough HD programming for now from off-air and my c/ku-band dish.

I still have not got anything solid on a price increase (although I do believe one is coming) however...

I am STRONG hearing a rumor that Dish may be offering a lower priced HD package at $9.99. No word on what HD channels people get for that $9.99.

CES is going to be very interesting.

In terms of percentages (AEP only):
2/1/02: 4.29% (rate of inflation 2.83%)
2/1/04: 2.74% (rate of inflation 1.59% and 2.27%)
2/1/05: 9.33% !!! (rate of inflation 2.68%)
2/1/06: 3.66% (rate of inflation 3.39%)
2/1/07: 5.88% (rate of inflation 3.24%)
2/1/08: 5.56% (rate of inflation 2.74% - projected)

7-year total increase: 35.71%
7-year rate of inflation: 20.30%

Granted, there have been a lot of channels added over these years, so it's not a total apples-to-apples comparison, but still something to ponder.

Hopefully if the $9.99 HD package is true, then it will be all HD minus Voom. I'd switch in a heartbeat if that were the case.

LEt me guess NO VOOM CHannels included in that 9.99 hd pack right? IF you want the Voom channels you pay 9.99 more . They could be giving you the Voom channels and all other hd channels that don't have an sd counterpart in a new Extra hd pack for 9.99 more, and the regular hd channels that do simulcast in sd for 9.99. They would lose 2 cents per hd sub but the perception of lower hd pack prices would help many subs who are holding back in adding hd due to the high $20.00 price . They would probably make that 2 cents up and more on the subs who don't have the hd pack and pay the new higher $7.00 hd enabeling fee.

I think it wouldn't work that way, HD pack($9.99) is still available for some costumers(PR residents) and for that price they only get the old package(TNT ,HD Net,HD Movies ,ESPN HD and Big Ten HD ). Even though the costumers have the AEP on theirs accounts they don't have the HD versions available on that package.:(

Wasn't Voom $5.00 to add to the $9.99 HD package before? If that's the case, they should drop the price in the HD package to $14.99 with Voom and $9.99 without Voom. The HD Package price then will match the HD package with Directv.

On a side note, I think Dish Network needs to restructure their pricing for programming and equipment fees, $5.98 per DVR is too much. Again, my opinion. :)

JH if I had to guess that would be my guess for the $9.99 HD package, as all the channels are on 110 and does not require a Dish 1000 or a Dish a 61.5.

We go thru this every year. People threatening to quit if they don't get X. Few if any remember the channels that were added over the course of the year.

On another topic, maybe the $9.99 package is JUST the Voom channels. If it comes to be.

HD channels on 110:

Removed Big10
Some HD PPV
HD Theater
Espn
Removed Espn2.
NFL Network
HD NET
HD NET Movies
Universal
HBO
Showtime
USA (Coming Soon?)
SciFi (Coming Soon?)

History and Discovery are on 129 and 61.5.
