I agree with that. Would you give up your TiVo today in return for a non-DVR HD box, if it meant more HD channels a couple of months sooner? I personally, would not. Also, if the DVR they finally do introduce is less capable than the current HD TiVo in any significant way, would you happily swap it out? Again, I personally would not be too happy about that.

The bottom line for me is that they'd better make sure that the mpeg4 receivers work, and that the mpeg4 DVRs work at least as well as the current TiVos and are readily available to anyone who wants to swap, before they even start to think about cutting off the mpeg2 streams.

I'm with you on that. I would not swap my HD-Tivo for just a receiver or a SD-DVR. Surely D* would know better than to try to do that. Well maybe not. I think/hope D* knows they need to at least match the HD-Tivo in features. Again I'm assuming and we know what happens when you do that.

The HMC is suppose to be end of the year or first of next year. But from what LonghornXP says he is hearing the stand alone HD-DVR is closer to being ready than we think.

If they couldn't, then why would they have DirecTV?!

Whether or not any more SD-LIL markets will appear with the SpaceWay satellites, it at least explains a little more about DirecTV's constant mention of expanding their SD-LIL offerings with the SpaceWay satellites...

Also, with Dan Collins' comments about NDS' SD-DVR having MPEG-4 capability, and someone (I don't know where it came from) predicting that EVERYTHING broadcasted from the SpaceWays' being broadcasted in MPEG-4, I suspect that those in Alaska and Hawaii will end up getting these, because I doubt that DirecTV would end up giving everyone in those DMAs a Humax HD receiver.

It was a joke, actually!

Currently, the programming on 101 is offered only on 101. I remember reading about people from those areas who have DirecTV, but have had to get the larger Gain Master dishes to pick them up, and even then with smaller signal readings than what we are used to.

DirecTV has stated that DirecTV-8 will offer a better signal to Alaska and Hawaii.

Actually, that particular list that CPanther95 posted (which lists the order of all 210 DMAs by Nielsen Media Research) is copied directly from a list entitledThe Official AVS List of all Stations Broadcasting HDTV / DD 5.1 on AVSForums.com that CPanther keeps updated (regarding HD and DD5.1, something that Neilsen does not do!). I didn't know if he knew there had been several posts recently updating several markets, so I mentioned it.

Well, no matter how you cut it, Indianapolis is #25, so no mattter how you cut up 25, we should get be getting MPEG-4.

However San Diego and Kansas City fans will be SOL while Sacramento and Portland still watch the teams they don't have in HD.

Actually, that particular list that CPanther95 posted (which lists the order of all 210 DMAs by Nielsen Media Research) is copied directly from a list entitledThe Official AVS List of all Stations Broadcasting HDTV / DD 5.1 on AVSForums.com that CPanther keeps updated (regarding HD and DD5.1, something that Neilsen does not do!). I didn't know if he knew there had been several posts recently updating several markets, so I mentioned it.

Oh, gotcha! Yeah, I'm kind of interested in what happens to the list the next time they change it myself. My DMA got bumped down two notches from #145 to #147. Had this year's BRAC closed the Marine Base, I suspect we would be down even farther next year.

On the other hand, my birthplace of Jackson, TN got a big bump up this past time if I remember correctly!

As fast as we are growing here in the Phoenix metro (about a 35% clip) I was hoping we would be bumped into the DMA's top 12 by now. I find their data weird, being #6 by population rank, yet we are ranked #15 in their TV list.

The following suburbs (US population rank) are part of the Phoenix-Valley Area and their TV originates from Phoenix and you would think would bump us up higher than #15.
