I need some advice. I am considering replacing my 722 with a 612 plus a 211 with EHD.

1) How reliable are the latest 612 receivers compare to the 722? My understanding is that some of the earlier 612 were problematic.

2) What would it take for Dish to replace my leased 722 with a 612 (I will purchase the 211). I am on my 8/24 month contract without service agreement. Would it help if I go to a local dealer for the replacement?

3) My understanding is that my monthly charges for the 622 and 211 (+ one time $40 for the EHD) will be the same as my current 722, is that correct?

If your 722 is your primary, then changing to a 612 and a 211 will incur an additional $7.00 monthly fee..
Can someone confirm that? I thought that the charge for a 722 is $17 vs. $10 for a 612 so I it will be even.

If you add the external hard drive to the 211 you will not be able to move recordings from
the 211 to the 612.
I am aware of that.

The most expensive receiver on the account is included

so if you have a 722 ONLY and go to a 612 & 211 you would be charged $7 (612 would be free...211 is $7)
if you have say 2 722's then it would be a wash. The 722 is $17 extra

How many receivers are on your account?

I have only one 722. I guess replacing the 722 with a 612 will not save me anything. I will just keep the 722 and get a 211 for an extra $7.

Thats exactly what I would do. Keep the 722k because it is a better receiver and leaves your options open. Add the 211k and put an external hard drive on it to make it a DVR. Overall your bill would go up $7/mo.

That was my original idea, but then I was reading that the 612 is only $10 because it is a single TV output. Dish does some stupid things but not when it comes to maximize their charges.

This is true. You won't need to buy an EHD to turn a 211 into a DVR, you won't have to pay the $40 fee even once, and you will be able to sneakernet your programs between your 722 and a 612 (I have done this), and you have two sat tuners. $3 more than the 211.
