Why do I get a screen message every so oftern that says remote updating, please wait?

It's just a remote right? what's it doing? I've seen it on my joeys, not sure I've seen the H3 do it

That's the message that displays when new firmware is downloaded from the receiver to the remote.

new firmware? I think its more than just that, I see it multiple times after reboots (I have a few remotes) and at other times occasionally.
firmware? timer backups?
???

It could be a combination of both but I'm told it's primarily when it updates the remote firmware. I don't know why you're seeing that message so often. I have multiple H3's with 8 remotes paired to each one and very, very rarely see the updating remote message and that's usually only when I'm pairing remotes.

I see it on my bedroom joey, obviously the 1 i use most, I did add a 2nd remote to it. But what is it updating every few days? A remote is a remote; it's not like the 2 is suddenly going to make it do anything but make a 2 right?
I don't add new recordings very often, is it backing up timers somehow?

When you see the message do you let it stay on the screen until the update is finished or do you interrupt it?

yeah, my interrupt the update no longer works, it used to...
I just can't imagine the remote firmware updates very often, especially without an H3 update, I sure haven't ever noticed any improvements in the the remotes...
do the timers/remotes even auto backup? if so, why the need for an option to do it in the menu?
all in all, just more H3 weirdness...

i cant interrupt it either, heck ive had it pop up scanning forward in a motor race, couldn't interrupt the remote update and it flew to the end of the race, DOH !!! lol

I've never seen anything like that. :eeek

I've actually never been able to interrupt it. I have had it pop up in the middle of live sports and hit the button to interrupt, and it just ignores it.

Just hit the "Back" (50.0 and 52.0) or "Cancel" (40.0) button on your remote and it should close the window. I do it all the time.

Have you tried changing the batteries in the remote?..maybe it doesn't have enough juice to complete the update

Sent from my SM-G920V using the SatelliteGuys app!
I've noticed that the "battery guage" for the remotes (on the "Diagnostics" page) seems to be fairly accurate as far as when the batteries need to be replaced.

What constitutes a "low beam area" re: unable to get a Hopper 3?

U344 - can't record /set up timers
