Thank god, YES!
Every refer a friend used to cost us $75 as a dealer for Directv and $50 for Dish.
I didn’t mind taking the hit on a true referral. But most of these referrals where the result of a friend being in the right place at the right time. Or a new customer who was already sold looking for additional discounts.
A lot of referrals are added to accounts after the fact. For example a friend mentioning to another friend they signed up for Directv, and all of a sudden “call and add my code to your account”
The friend is supposed to talk his or her friend into getting Directv, not finding out your friend got Directv after the fact and trying to get credit for something you didn’t help sell.
I can’t tell you how many times I have done an install and here comes the neighbor running over to my customers house trying to get a referral credit just because they saw my truck in their neighbors driveway.
BTW, I never add the neighbors code and use my own instead just because the neighbor cost me money
IMHO, Dish and all these other cable and cellular companies should get rid of their referral programs also.
It’s a joke.
