recording onto opposite tv

Last night I tried to record two shows simultaneously, using both tuners. I was watching tv1 and recording the show I was watching. I also tried to record a different show using tv2, but it would not allow me to change the setting to tv2. I get the error, recording in progress (324). Well, duh. I thought that I had been able to push recording to the other tuner from the opposite tuner (ie, record show on tv2 and then find another show on tv2 guide that is on simultaneously and set it to record on tv1 using tv2 remote/interface). Now this is no longer possible and the tech help (chat) was completely unhelpful.

TL;DR want to record on both tuners using one remote which guy on chat said was impossible, though I thought I'd done it before and never had the 324 error.

welcome :wave

What receiver model is it?
I know there is an option in the menus that when you set a recording it defaults to tuner 2 if there is no conflict. Then the 2nd program you record goes to tuner 1.
But if the receiver is in dual mode (that is you have separate shows on 2 separate TV's) you can't flip between the two.
If you put the receiver into single mode then you can flip between the two shows but if you have more than one TV set up both will show the same channel.

Like I say I know in the menus there is an option called I think record plus that always puts the 1st show recording to tuner 2 (I dont have dish currently so I'm trying to remember what it is on my dad's DVR)

since its in dual mode you can enable record plus which would send all timer recordings to tuner 2 (menu 8-5 to enable it...per the manual)

Here is the info from the manual how to utilize record plus on the fly

Thank you. Not exactly what I meant though. But perhaps I am not doing it right. If I am currently recording on Tv1 and watching the recording-- if I go to the guide and select another show, and try to record it onto Tv2, it does not allow it (there is no menu option, it just gives a popup saying I am already recording). I was thinking there was a way that I could get the TV1 to record the show on TV1 and then allow me to find another show and record it (from TV1 interface/remote onto TV2 [provided nothing is recording already on TV2]) but this doesn't seem to be the case.

It doesn't kill me to walk to the bedroom and go to the guide, select the other show, record it that way-- onto Tv2, so I guess I am asking too much of my Dish receiver. I tell you, the more I use the Dish 722i the more I miss Directv.

hmmm....maybe someone else knows how to do it

I understand what you're saying. If TV1 is already recording and there is nothing on TV2 it should at least give you the option to send one of the recordings there

I think that is where the record plus comes in. The 1st show you record you'd have the option of recording on tuner 1 or shuffling it to tuner 2. The 2nd recording would automatically go to tuner 1

I wish the chat guys were more communicative. I gave up because he was just copying/pasting generic responses to me. I tried calling, but I have small children and well, if you have ever tried to do anything on the phone with small children around.. it's impossible.

This is true- I guess that's the deal. I should start recording automatically to the opposite tuner that I am watching? It just seems so... 2002.

It is enabled. I just need to always go in the other room to record on the other tuner if I am recording on the one I am watching/using. It will not allow me to push the record button and start recording on TV2 from TV1 (and vice versa) if I am recording on TV1 already. Example: watching The Simpsons on TV1. Find that Seinfeld is recording on another channel at the same time, want to record it. While on guide, I push record on channel 55 for Seinfeld. Does not give me an option to record to TV2 (nothing else is recording on TV2, mind you, nor is anything scheduled until next day). Gives Error code 324 instead, that I am already recording (on TV1, not TV2).

I was under the impression that I could be recording on TV1, and then use the same TV1 guide/remote to record simultaneously onto TV2- instead I have been pausing TV1, going upstairs to my bedroom, going to the show/guide and pressing the record button to record on TV2 (or vice versa- from Bedroom to Living Room).

It's just inconvenient. Apparently I have to always record to the opposite tuner (record The Simpsons on TV2 if I am watching TV1, then watch the recording) to avoid having to switch TV's to record.

If you record a show you are watching, then try to record another show currently on the air, you MUST go to TV2 to start the recording.

If you preset timers for two shows at the same time interval the first will record wherever your preferences are set and the second will go to the other tuner.

You cannot manually start two recordings from the same tuner during the same time interval, no matter what is enabled or disabled.
