I am looking at switching to Direct in the fall after the new sat goes up and they have more HD programming. My question is I now have one standard and one HD reciever. I will want to get the HD DVR and wanted to know if I needed to have an installer hook up the new reciever or could I do it myself. The problem is my service address is different from my billing one, so I don't really need for them to come out. Also, would it make a difference whether I purchased from Direct or maybe just picked one up at Costco? Thanks

If your service address is different then you will have to obtain the unit yourself and install. Several big box retailers and online sites have Directv receivers even eBay. Just make sure you have the 5 LNB dish installed. If it is not, then you will need to upgrade that to receive all the forthcoming HD. If you dont want to install yourself, you will need to move back to get the dish. If you have to do that, then might as well get hardware from Directv as well.
