I recently moved from Cntral FL to Central PA and brought my DirecTV box with me. I changed my Florida address to my parents address (also in Central FL) so that I could still access the local channels, but once I setup the dish, I get all channels but the locals (says something about not available, look at alternate channels for programing or something along those lines). After doing some reading on the internet, I'm wondering if I don't have access to a certain Satellite or if it's the dish. My last dish was a true circular dish with a 2 LNB in it. I left the dish on my old house at the request of the buyers, so I bought a new dish and discovered it's got a more oval shape to it, but the oval runs up-down, not sideways which I have seen on most advertisements. Can this be causing me to not have access to the satellite carrying C FL local stations?

Thanks.

most locals on DirecTV are on spotbeams. This allows DIrect to reuse the transponder space and put up more locals.

Most spotbeams will reach 200 miles around. As an example, the Minneapolis spotbeam pretty much covers MN and western WI. If you are outside of that area, you wont get any channels

:( That bytes. I'd give up the dish except for the NFL Package.

I just moved from Southern FL to Western PA. Are we both nuts or what? :)

Agreed. Thank god for satellite so I can watch the Dolphins stink it up again this season. I keep saying I'll switch teams next year, but just can't bring myself to do it.

Why would anyone move to PA?

OK, if you really want to know.

I have three children, all of whom have some special need, 2 of which is Autism, one more severe than the other. Schools and services in Florida are terrible at realizing these kids can have a future given the proper assistance.

PA is actually very progressive (relatively speaking) in working with these kids. I hear NJ is even better, but who can afford to live in NJ (at least the places worth living)?

Had we not these issues, then no, I would not have moved to PA from FL. But kids come first.

Now, I can say, the cost of living in PA is better than FL, and that's considering PA has a State and Local taxes whereas in Florida no such beast exhists.

Good luck finding an insurance policy in Florida that doesn't eat 30-40% of your mortgage payment.
