Really confused about R10 upgrade w/ my old dish. Help?

The phone line isn't needed for any Tivo functionality, except for the initial call, which you can still get out of using a phone line if you know how to configure a PPP session with a PC.

Everything worked find. I never found a feature that didn't work... As far as PPV, I just ordered them online. The only thing I had to deal with was the nag messages.

Obviously though, if you are expecting a s/w update you will be out of luck until the unit makes a call (as far as I know). That's one thing you have to have a phone line for.
