Re-Install process update..

Hey all! Just an update for you...it has been a while since I have posted here...it has been almost 3yrs. since I acquired my 10ft. mesh channel master...now that I have recently bought a home I have started my re- install process. Today finished securing my pole to my concrete slab that I poured about 2 weeks ago (nice and level and plumb all the way around!!), next will be re-assembling the dish panels and installing it on the mount and pole...hopefully this Thursday or Friday. Super excited to finally get this project going and getting into this hobby! I have used dish pointer online to determine my line to the south.....not sure which southern satellite would be best to try for??? any good ideas? my zipcode is 29936. Thx! I will post pictures as I go along..and I am sure I will have lots of questions for you all to help with.

Would be nice if you could pick up Arsat 2 @ 81.0°W. That's your due south sat. But you may end up working with AMC 9 @ 83.0°W. Good time of year for satellite projects. There are a few in progress on the forum. Keep the pictures and questions coming.

Unless it has been replaced by another satellite recently you won't be able to use AMC9 @ 83W as it had a major failure a few months back. If you can't get the ku channels from Arsat 2 @ 81W you should be able to pick up c band on 78W @ 3885 V 23000. My true south is just about 77W so I use that. It comes in fine on an 8' dish so you should have no trouble with a 10' as they have an even stronger signal in your area.

Oh yeah, forgot about that bird dying. Does make c-band a little sparse in that part of the sky.

Dish Pointer is handy for sure but having all the streets and houses laid out true north, south, east & west like in my town is extremely fortunate

Guess I did forget to mention that I will be looking on C-band with my dish....no Ku right now, maybe later down the road.

If you want to get as many satellites as possible its very important sighting your dish, have a play with dish pointer for a few hours/days checking your line of sight and for obstacles, there's nothing worse than putting a ton or so concrete in the ground only to realise your signal is blocked from a satellite you wanted to get.

Satfinder Pro by Kvasha Software for iPhone works well for surveying on and around the property too.. If Android phone I'm sure there's something for these too.

I was on it several days ago and found some channels. They weren't the strongest, but there was signal there. Not sure what it's like now. The closest thing to it is SES2 with the Luken MUX. It's just a few degrees off from AMC9, but he shouldn't have a problem finding it if the dish settings are correct..

Brasilsat B4 has some ITC channels on it. I've been on it a few times.

Ok I have been busy today putting my dish back together...I have 2 questions, on the mounting ring on the back of the dish, does the mounting point that has the longer hole need to be on the top of the saddle or on the bottom? Plus here are some pictures for the progress..

Looking at the picture, it appears the bracket with the longer hole would go at the top so you can adjust the offset angle. Just a guess not knowing what brand the dish is. Some dishes have the offset adjustment at the bottom, but it's usually done with all thread with the nuts on both sides of the flange so you can make fine adjustments.

Others have what looks like an elongated hole at the top, but it's actually 4 or 5 holes and you take the pivot bolt out and move it in one hole, or out one. Yours may actually slide up and down the slot to adjust the offset. I'd be surprised it yours goes at the bottom.

Channel Master had a really nice fiberglass dish. The feed legs especially were well thought out and they attached to the dish via a hole through the fiberglass. The bottom end of the feed legs were threaded and you installed a bolt from behind the dish threading into the end of the feed leg. They seemed to work really well. We never sold Channel Master, but I remember a couple radio stations in the area using them.

Made progress today with the help of my neighbor....we got it set on the pole! I have installed the actuator to help stationary the dish, looks like it is pretty much froze up ( haven't messed with it yet). Anyone know anything about Channel Master actuators? probably will replace it with a Venture at some point. hope to this coming Sunday to install the LNB support arms and the LNB itself.
