I just roughed out a 162 game projection for Jason Bay before tonight's game started. His numbers projected to about 190 RBI, 260 runs scored and a .429 batting average.

Ramirez meanwhile projected to .625 with 400 hits and over 200 RBI and runs scored.

Since tonight's games began, Ramirez is 2 for 2 with a homer. I'd say that, so far, both teams have gotten their money's worth.

Huh? How did you come up with these numbers? So you're saying Bay and Ramirez are both on pace to beat the 100+ year old MLB Batting Average record? Come on...:confused::confused:

It's pretty easy to project the batting averages.

As far as the other stats are concerned, Ramirez had ten hits in four games. 162 x10/4. Bay had 8 runs in 5 games 162x8/5, etc.

Mid-game update: Ramirez is 2 for 3 in today's game with 2 RBI and 1 run scored. Bay, meanwhile is a less productive 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored but no RBI.

I've been doing projections since Carl Yastrzemski hit two homers in the first game of the 1968 season.

I saw a graphic on NESN tonight, Bay is hitting .422 and a HR with Boston while Manny is hitting .600 with 3 HR with LA

but the Sox are 5-1 since the trade, so that works for me :up

i am just going to wait until the end of the season and see how the stats match up. Since each player went to a team in a different league, it should be easy on the day after the final day of the season to cull the new team stats from the old team stats for the 2008 season for each player.

Ramirez could have hit 1.000 for LA and that wouldn't have bothered me. It was necessary to remove the distraction he had become and many comments from some Sox veterans have verified that.

Although Manny probably wouldn't agree, I feel the focus should be on how the teams are faring since the deal:

Through 8/6:
Boston 5-1
LAD 2-3

Right on, Cosmo! :up

The difference between Jason B & Manny R is Manny would be on welfare if he wasn't a ball player. As a Redsox fan I love the trade.

Jay Bay now has a combined 16 Runs/RBI's (10 runs/6 RBI's) through his first six games with the Sox. That ties the Red Sox all-time record for combined Runs/RBI's through first six games in a Boston uniform.

I think my point is that your projections are flawed. You can't seriously think either Bay or Ramirez will continue to hit for this average over a 162 game season. And if they did, like I said earlier, they would shatter records that have stood for 100+ years!

That's like saying if a team starts off 10-0, they would be projected to go 162-0! According to your math, you'd be correct, but we all know that is never going to happen. You need a MUCH bigger sample piece to make such bold "projections".

I dont have a problem with Bay but they traded the wrong guy for him, or guys.. Ortiz is ready for the pasture. What is he? 2 for 20 or something? Imagine the production with Bay and Manny together.

And Bay might be living in a trailer park? What does THAT have to do with the tea in China? How do you know Manny would be on welfare? IF you were THAT good at seeing the future....you sure a hell would not be here......

As well crafted as Manny's swing is I would peg him as a master Carpenter or something.

I think itas sad that the Manny Hatred or jealousy has turned to racism. Manny would be on welfare? Why because he's not white?

That reminds me of the Hot Rod Hundley quote about the Texas-El Paso basketball players, "The only thing they can't do with a basketball is autograph it."

FYI, four of the Texas El Paso's first six players graduated, whereas only one of Kentucky's did. One became chief of detectives for Atlanta, another became sales manager for a national company. One of Kentucky's players who did not was Pat Riley.

That's all you could do is imagine. Manny was dogging it, and would've continued to do so. You wouldn't have seen similar numbers to what he's had in LA if he stayed with the Sox. Just more 3 pitch SO's without lifting the bat off his shoulder, and mysterious ailments that keep him out of important games.

He's Torre's problem now, thank God.
