Ok I have an opportunity to get this tv Samsung HP-R5052 Plasma Television for $500 thats supposedly in new condition and less than 2 months old. Im curious as to wether anyone here has this tv and or has used it and knows how well it works. I know theres a forum here for hd gear but it rarely seems to have any life to it and its my feeling that all the hd experts congregrate here ( mild sucking up has commenced ) so if anyone can give some advice and insite that would be great.

Being that it's used make sure it doesn't have any phospher burn or bad cells and still has manufacturer's warranty (transferable to you of course). If it to be shipped make sure that it done properly. Plasmas must always be in a upright position and never lying face up or down.

Just wonderring why it's only $500, 2 months old and the owner doesn't want it any more.

Its in craigslist, the poster received a similiar model as an christmas gift from his work. Thanks for the info on what to look for, I just have to wait for a reply to my email to him and hopefully will be out to look at it tonight.

That is a current model $4000 TV. It is commonly sold for $3000'ish over the internet (before $200 shipping) and $3500 or more from brick & mortar stores. It is VERY odd that someone would be selling it for $500. If it is good condition, even $1500 would be a bargain price.

Definitely a price that screams you need to be careful.

Yea I was thinking that as well, havent received a reply to my email yet so no idea if it is legit and if so if it is still around.

A current model 50" plasma for $500 with the poster receiving a similar model as a gift? Smells like a scam to me.

I think its been sold or a scam, not sure either way but I havent gotten a reply email as of 11:57 pm eastern time and I sent out the original email at 2:17pm. Theres a sony 60 inch rear projection for $650 thats 3 years old but I dont want to touch a rear projector due to the viewing angles issue as my computer sits to the right of the entertainment center now.

Found the exact dlp sony I want on craigslist for $150 more but its in chicago and I dont think I want to drive that far.

Plasma is definitely 20th century technology too. I had a plasma computer monitor back in the 1980s.

LCD direct view is also, but you could make a case for larger LCD panels being 21st Century. Not that they are that large or without their own set of shortcomings.

I went with 20th century CRT RP on the cheap, while I wait for a solid 21st century solution to come out.

Same here; two years ago I bought a Mitsubishi 55" RPTV since DLPs weren't 1920x1080 at the time. Now, with SED or OLED panels, it's possible that the massive entertainment center that was designed to fit a RPTV would be mostly empty space. Personally, I'm thinking a tri-LED lamp in a DLP RP set would fit the bill nicely. I don't know if we'll ever see an LED-based flat panel at consumer prices.
