Question about the WS International DSF120+

I just got a WS International DSF120+ satellite finder.
Can someone confirm that the dial on the side is a volume control.
When I rotate the dial, the volume increases/decreases but so does the signal strength on the display...

To me that sounds like the dial is to fine tune the signal strength and volume is just corresponding to the increase/decrease of the signal. (Also, that is what I thought the ATT +/- buttons where for.
