I am no DTV expert, but I want to know if the Sat box (H20-600) can be the cause of random pixelation? I have a H20-600 and an AU-9 slimline that have worked great since it was installed about 3 months ago to replace the AT-9 I had. I am asking because all of my signal readings are above 70 and it occurs at random. For instance, it usually occurs with local channels and the RSN sportsouth. Watching the mets v. tigers yesterday I even got the 771 error with a reading of 71,70, and 73 on my 103 tp? I have noticed that ESPN and ESPN2 have been having some pixelation as well. Surely it can't be a LNB again? The tech said 3 months ago that all my connections were good. I would guess the last option would be the box, or maybe the dish again? Heat expansion? I really don't know. I have 2 other SD boxes in the house that are fine. The only thing with them is sometimes the picture freezes for a couple seconds and comes back? I don't know what that means either.
Any input is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

First thing I would check is dish ,making sure there are no trees bushes or anything else that may be in the signal path. Then alignment on your dish.It doesnt take much for a signal to be lost ,if your dish is not lined up exactly with the satellite.

I don't think its a dish problem.

Here are my signal strengths
H20-600
Sat 101
1-8 77,82,75,65,75,87,76,87
9-16 76,85,75,54,74,87,71,87
17-24 65,87,71,59,72,85,76,88,
25-32 74,85,75,77,77,85,74,91
Sat 110
Tp8-71 Tp10-77 Tp12-73

Sat 103
1-6 70-13-72-10-70-13

Sat 119
TP 22-24 87-0-89
TP 25-32 0-88-89-86-0-88-0-91

Anyone know about using 3 GHz barrel connetors. I don't have them, could that be a problem? I read it on another board. If so, wouldn't it be a problem all the time?

lowe41, I am having the same problem as you. D* will make you believe it is a hardware problem, but it is not. I am pretty sure it is a broadcasting problem in certain markets. I have had my dish and H20 replaced, but still seeing pixelation and macroblocking. I also have a HR20 HD DVR and it happens on that receiver as well. Right now D* is limited on bandwidth for HD and when they are showing a bunch of HD programs at once you will see the pixelation and macroblocking problem here and there. I have seen it on the local HD's, TNT-HD, ESPN and ESPN2 HD, and the MLB EI SuperFan channels. Hopefully when Directv 10 is launched this will solve a lot of there bandwidth issues.

Hey Bases,

Thanks for the info, I am pretty sure I was not the only one. I just figured it can't be bad equipment all the time?? Hopefully it will be better when the new sat is launched, we'll see.

I am looking into the 3GHz F81 connectors, I doubt that will help. Anyone use them, tried them? Install them? Just curious if they are worth it. I read about them on another board.

Thanks

update to my image pixelation problem

So, finally, the Direct TV technician comes out. I explain the problem and immediately he says "signal strenght problem". he goes over to see the dish on the roof of the house and voila, problem solved. the issue was that the satellite was not positioned correctly. The dish is very heavy and was not secured appropriately so the weight caused the dish to angle down.

So, problem fixed after all the aggravation with DirectTV
